British Airways and Nectar have launched two major competitions to persuade you to convert your Nectar points into Avios this July.

This competition seems to be rolling out slowly. I can see details in the Nectar app – across two separate tiles – but it isn’t anywhere to be found across the British Airways site or the Nectar site.

The competition for you depends on whether you have already linked your Nectar and British Airways Executive Club accounts.

If you haven’t linked your Nectar and British Airways Executive Club accounts ….

There are three million Nectar points to be won, split into 351 prizes. It isn’t clear how the split is done.

Anyone who links their Nectar and British Airways accounts for the first time between 1st July and 28th July will be entered.

No registration is required. You are entered automatically when you link your accounts.

The rules do not specify that you need to make a transfer in either direction. You just need to make the link.

The winners will be picked by 18th August and notified by 1st September.

If you have linked your Nectar and British Airways Executive Club accounts ….

If your accounts are already linked, there is a different competition for you.

Each time you convert 400 Nectar points into 250 Avios between 1st July and 28th July, you will be entered into a competition.

There are two million Avios to be won. The Avios are split across 181 prizes – it is not made clear how the prizes are distributed.

Each block of 400 Nectar points moved to Avios counts as one entry. You can earn, at most, 20 entries by moving 8,000 Nectar points. You don’t need to make each 400 point transfer as a separate transaction, looking at the rules.

No registration is required. You are entered automatically when you convert your points.

I thought online conversion between Nectar and BA had stopped?

No, only one way. You CAN still convert Nectar points into Avios online via this page of ba.com.

It is only transfers in the other direction – from Avios into Nectar – which are currently restricted due to security issues. These transfers require a telephone call and can take up to 10 days to complete.

If your Nectar points are set to auto-convert into Avios, this is not a problem. You will still be included in the competition.

The draw will take place by 1st September and winners will be notified by 8th September.

Be aware that your entries are voided if you reverse the transaction during the competition period. You cannot move Nectar points into Avios, send them back to Nectar and then transfer them again to get additional entries. You also cannot unlink your Nectar and Avios accounts until the competition closes.

Can you enter both competitions?

I don’t see why not.

If your Nectar and BA accounts are not already linked, the rules imply that you enter the first competition by setting up the link, and you enter the second competition by moving some Nectar points into Avios. These are two separate tasks.

It is possible that some more information on this competition will emerge in the next few days – we’ll update you if we learn anything more.

Connect BA to nectar on BA page doesn’t work, it throws you out and asks you to log in then doesnt work. when you get back to the page after logging in to BA then searching and finding the page, you click on the button and it throws you out gain ….Rubbish!!

I do have concerns about Sainsbury’s and Nectar IT, I’m unsure as to the level of integration, but it all seemed to go wrong when the single log on was introduced.

I had the issue where the weekly Nectar offers at Sainsbury’s didn’t arrive, I noted the response, but did suspect an IT issue. A few weeks later I was locked out, through no fault of my own, of my Sainsbury’s groceries account.

OT – My wife has received an email saying she is about to lose her Avios. We have a household account, but I tend to earn the Avios, plus we have a joint BA Prem card to hit the 10k spend which obviously only credits my account.

Can she still lose her point even though it’s part of a household account? Any advice on how she can retain them, especially as it looks like we won’t be travelling this year?

  I know there is no such thing as joint cardholders. I have spent my morning trying to explain that her Amex is actually my Amex and I am responsible for all spending on all cards on the account. It’s like negotiating with a terrorist.

Have they sorted out the security issues? When this was setup I remember reading on here just how weak the security was and how easy it was for someone to drain out all your Avios.

  Not yet although Nectar has switched to a new password system called my ID. It is supposed to allow the same login for online groceries and nectar. For me it has managed to lock me out of the nectar website. nectar call centre found the problem but then had to escalate it and says up to 28 days to be fixed.

I am still waiting for the Avios from the initial promotion that I applied for on 25th January. The 1600 Nectar points are shown as going to BA but I have been passed from Nectar to BA and back again so many times to get nowhere with the issue. It has now stayed with BA who still are investigating two months.later. I would not chance changing any more points to Avios as the system is that unreliable.

    It was for 1000 Avios and a 500 Avios bonus. Principals are involved. I have already have had Nectar Points stolen from my account which I had to fight months for reimburseent. . I am retired so time has no value!

Competition was showing for on the Nectar App yesterday – tried to transfer 80k NP to Avios several times – would not work. Now the competition has disappeared. What is going on? 🤷

    It certainly is. Unlinked, then linked up the accounts again. Transferred 8k Nectar to Avios. Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone who takes part. Minimum prize is 5,000 Avios per the terms and conditions.

      Did you transfer 8k Nectar Points in one go or 20 times? The competition is one entry for every 400 NP converted to 250 Avios at a time. Maximum of 20 entries.
      
      Also don’t transfer any Avios to NP in July as that will invalidate your entries.
