The HfP chat thread – Friday 2nd July

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I have managed to get 2 wimbledon centre court tickets from ticketmaster / amex! However tickets are still not in MyWimbledon account, ticketmaster doesnt really care and AELTC doesn’t respond to any e-mails or pick up phones. Any idea how I sort this out? Will there be ticket offices at gate to help with this? Has anyone had the same issue?

    • Babyg says:

you should receive an email from “noreply@wimbledon.tickets” which you need in order to access and manage your ticket… they wont show up in your app/website until you have this..

  • Doommonger says:

There is a ticket resolution gate 1D I think, be prepared for a wait though or get there early, either way if you have any problem tell them the doomster will be round to sort em aht if they get a bit nawty in Sarf Lahndan.

    Doomey.

  • Njb says:

    On the Wimbledon FAQ front:
Conrad booked for three nights with Emyr – third night free 🙂
Now wondering about food and drink – not got debenture seats so shall I buy a Wimbledon picnic hamper, bring a Fortnum and Mason one or take pot luck with the food outlets there ?

    • SteveJ says:

Depends what you want to eat. Pizza, burgers, noodles, fish&chips, sandwiches all available for purchase, lots of outlets and the quality and prices is quite reasonable. Seems a lot of hassle to bring your own picnic tbh

    • Rob says:

Have you seen how small the ‘personal item’ allowed is? You might get a sandwich in.

      • Njb says:

But I can preorder a Wimbledon one to collect on the day – only £100 for two 😂

      • Babyg says:

Rob, think you’re being OTT on personal items.. 3 or us bought in 12 x 20cls bottles (4 each).., plus a blanket, and some food. not an issue…

      • AJA says:

I took a punnet of strawberries, and a couple of bags of crisps from Sainsbury’s as well as 4 bottles of water in with me and they were fine with that.

Bought food at the walled garden food court, the BBC chicken wings and coleslaw and fries were lovely, cost £9.80. Burger and chips was £10.30. 2 Beers a similar amount. Tea and coffee and 4 choc chip cookies a tad more. Paid for everything with Amex contactless.

  • Craig says:

Late question, does Amex Platinum travel insurance cover cruises? I couldn’t find anything that said it doesn’t?

  • John says:

totally confused with this testing nonsense. Can someone confirm when I require a PCR test for travel to Mallorca? Flight is midday Tuesday. Conflicting reports whether it needs to be done here in UK (48hrs before – is this results 48hrs before or test to be taken 48hrs before?) or within 48hrs of arrival into Mallorca (in which case, what’s the earliest it can be done)?

Total farce if you ask me!!

    • Will says:

Depending on your flight time it’s a nightmare.

I’m landing Sunday 16.25 uk time.

My covid test happened at 4pm today which was the latest I was able to book, result due tomorrow by 10pm.

So in theory, I’ve been tested 25 minutes too early.

On the plus side it now says antigen tests are valid on the palmA airport website.

        • Will says:

Palma airport (and Balearics tourist board also )website now stating antigen accepted. They are also promoting tests on arrival on the tourist board site.

Uk foreign office sure is stating only PCR acceptable and results must be issued within 48 hours of arrival (so not tested within which contradicts Balearics tourist and palma airport site):

          http://safetourism.illesbalears.travel/en

Anyone travelling to Mallorca from a high-risk country (from Friday, 2/7/2021 this once more includes the UK) must be able to provide proof of one of the following on arrival at the airport:

          -Proof of vaccination
-Proof of a negative diagnostic test taken no more than 48 prior to arrival (antigen tests are now accepted, which are cheaper than PCR tests)
          -Proof of recovery from COVID-19“

    • TGLoyalty says:

Test taken 48 hours BEFORE you land.

      • will says:

Yep, looks like I’ll need an antigen test at LHR if they are strict in applying that 48 hour rule. When I booked the test I was under the impression only PCR was valid for Balearics which left me with no actual option to take the test within the compliant time frame and get a result in time as express test were offering the latest tests at 16:00 and offering result next day by 10pm.

  • Yorkie Aid says:

I received an email on 30th June.

    • Billyk says:

I received an email inviting me to apply for the white card but I already have the black. But no cash back offer.

  • The cyclist says:

Italy V Spain and the winner of that game wins the tournament.

    • Red Flyer says:

No, that game is the SF so they get a place in the Final.

      • The cyclist says:

Like I said the winner of that game wins the Euros 🙂

        • Tonyb says:

Not sure about that Spain need 10 chances to score 1, Italy look pretty solid though

    • Memesweeper says:

I think we just saw the best two teams play.

It’s still not a dead cert Italy will win… but I hope for England’s sake Spain put them out on pens. 😁

  • Anna says:

Will -from July 2nd only a PCR test is valid to enter all Spanish territories.
