We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    London Park Lane IC:

Is it worth to pay more for their Mayfair collection rooms? Not looking for a suite stay, just superior or deluxe.

    Thanks,

    W

    • Doreen says:

Absolutely worth it IMO. The basic Classic (18sqm) feels really tight with bulky furniture whereas the same sized Mayfair room is so much better designed – I found it hard to believe it was the same room footprint.

    • David says:

Surely the pictures of the Mayfair rooms vs the older rooms tell you all you need to know?
My answer would be absolutely worth it.

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

As you don’t give a price difference nobody can give a meaningful answer as to whether it’s “worth it”.

  • Pangolin says:

New offer on my BA Amex today: “Get 5000 Avios when spending £200+ at Marriott Bonvoy participating locations until 31st August 2021.”

    • Sam says:

Is this cumulative? I was at the spa yesterday at St Pancras Renaissance and that is how it came up when I paid (As a day visit) as opposed to Marriott..

      • Sandra says:

I got an email from Amex overnight to register for this but when I click on the link to save to card am getting an error message. It’s not showing on any of my cards either, does that mean 30k which is the limit have already saved it?!

        • KS says:

Maybe not, ask CS and they should be able to add it for you if it is still available. They will likely ask for you to upload the email as proof that you are targeted for the offer.

      • Pangolin says:

I’m not sure but past experience shows that these offers usually get triggered on cumulative spend.

Pity they don’t include Italy on the list though.

Test to release datapoint: had my test with Collinson, sample taken at 8:50am, got the result around 10pm. If I need to do TTL again I will just stick with Randox for all tests. Used them for departure and day 2/8 tests – received results 2-4pm next day. Unless there is a need to be somewhere early day 6, I do not think it’s worth paying 2x more for Collinson.

    • Optimus Prime says:

Did you use one of their drop boxes? We used Royal Mail to send our day 2 test: posted on Weds afternoon, they confirmed receipt on Thursday 3pm and results arrived on Friday 9am.

    • Pete M says:

Yup, similar experience with Collinson at LCY. It does seem to vary though as know people who’ve had the results back in a few hours.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Thought you could test to release with a lamp test that takes 2 hours?

      • Sam G says:

Guess not – Collinson quote “Collinson delivers the only rapid test to allow you to leave quarantine ON DAY 5.” but I think that is still a PCR test, they’re just processing it quickly

  • Patrycja says:

I’m doing final check for my holiday to Ibiza and after getting vaccine certificates, booking my PCR tests 48hrs form arrival (no take off), checking the locator form, I am trying to clarify my hotel cancellation policy if the worst was to happen. We arrive this Sunday 4th and cancellation policy says if you cancel on or before 23:59 4/07/21 you will be charged 30% fee.

Does it mean I have pretty much until end of day of arrival (Sunday) to cancel for free. We would only do this if we could not board for some reason.

    Many thanks for your help!

    • Sandra says:

Unless I am reading it wrong (or you have written it incorrectly) “If you cancel on or before 23:59 04/07/21 you will be charged 30% fee “, indicates to me that you will be charged 30% regardless of when you cancel on or prior to 23:59 04/07 and it’s not a free cancellation rate.

    • David D says:

From what you have posted you will be charged 30% rather than 100%.

  • Kyle says:

Someone was asking recently about Royal Senses Crete, new Curio by Hilton hotel. Had a stay there on points last week. Very nice hotel although in the middle of nowhere so may not be for everyone. On a plus side, onsite restaurant has very reasonable prices with mains priced 10-15 eur. They also have so called fast food corner opened for lunch with 5 eur gyros and 8 eur pizzas. There is also a supermarket right next to the hotel. Hotel is on a hill so no beach access however they have sister property on the other side of the highway and beach can be used there.

    • Char Char says:

Nice, had planned to visit there but had to cancel, will likely go there with a hire car next visit, thanks for comments.

  • Will says:

did anyone get their 99 nectar from the esso supreme competition?
we didn’t and nectar won’t add them. saying contact Esso. had same problem yesterday, nectar saying contact BA for missing double nectar and 500 bonus. Really not worth the hassle is it? Is it?

    • Rob says:

I would let it go – better than 75% chance they turn up automatically at some point.

  • Jim says:

Anyone received the Barclays Avios Switch bonus yet?

  • YC says:

Amex 20% at Wimbledon shop – is this just provided at the counter by the CS? Or do you need to do something prior to trigger?
