We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I’ve just had an invitation to sign up for a Jaja credit card. I put my name on the list some time ago when I seem to remember some useful feature to the card, but can’t see anything inviting now (it has fee free foreign spend, but I have a Horizon card for that). Anyone remember anything about it?

    • stevenhp1987 says:

I remember it being FX-free and that’s it. Nothing else of note.

    • Jody says:

We have one, as used to have the Post Office credit card, and it changed over to Jaja. We retain it purely so that we have another option for fee free foreign spend when away.

    • ashraj says:

A word of caution with Jaja. Their customer service is horrible in my experience. It took several phone calls and complaints to get fraudulent transactions removed from my card. Was such a stressful process.

The amex spend £200 at IHG, get £50 back – anyone know if that’s cumulative on spend across different IHG hotels?

  • Youllnever says:

Has anyone triggered the Regent Street offer at the Apple store? Do you need to do anything special since there’s the iPad/tablet POS T&C clause?

  • Craig says:

Amex related, Mrs S hits the 24 month point without a BAPP on the 26/08. Am I right in thinking if she signs up right away she will almost certainly get the new voucher but pay the old fee?

    • Rob says:

Correct. My wife is in a very similar boat, almost to the day.

      • Craig says:

Thanks Rob, just double checked and have the letter dated 27 Aug 2019 but with a cancellation date of 23 Aug. So a day or two of leeway to be on the safe side.

        • Rob says:

Ring and ask, they are happy to tell you when their systems shows the closure – but you have leeway anyway.

All I’d say is that Amex goes by date of approval and not date of application. Monday 30th August is a Bank Holiday and obviously you have the weekend before that, so slipping it in on the 27th or earlier if possible will give you leeway in case it needs manual approval.

  • Rob says:

If anyone has got the £200 back on a £1000 Four Seasons hotel stay offer from Amex, could you send me a screenshot plus the list of participating hotels? Thanks. No sign of it in our house.

    • KP says:

Sorry not across my four cards !

    • Matthew says:

I found it last night after the offers refreshed for the day and it gave me an error saying it couldn’t be added. Logged in this morning and it’s disappeared. Didn’t get a chance to click on the participating hotels unfortunately.

    • Paul says:

Bizarre it was there yesterday below Ting and Gong, the last offer on my list but now gone.

      • Andrew says:

        Means cap is reached.

        • Rob says:

People said they couldn’t register so I reckon it might have been withdrawn for fixing. No-one mentioned it so I don’t see how umpteen thousand lovers of 5-star hotel found it so quickly.

Update on my EasyJet Issue from yesterday.

Background – Booked EDIMUC return for Jul-21. Canx by easyJet in May-21. Took FTV and rebooked EDILIS return using FTV and additional cash sum. This too was canx by easyJet on 28-Jun. Requested cash refund same day. Yesterday easyJet advised by email I wasn’t entitled to a cash refund, only a new FTV.

Update – I called easyJet customer services yesterday to explain that as easyJet had cancelled flights on both bookings I was entitled to a full cash refund. the CSA agreed and confirmed she would instruct the back office to process the same.

This morning I received an email from easyJet stating that as they had only cancelled the outbound flights on both bookings (this is incorrect but lets not worry about that too much), I am only entitled to a 50% refund.

A further call to easyJet customer service ensued, where the CSA was astonished at how the back office team had determined this to be the case. She confirmed I was entitled to a full refund and would instruct the back office team accordingly.

I do understand the airlines are trying to conserve cash but deliberately misinterpreting the law is not treating customers fairly. I have 20 years of Procurement experience, I am used to push suppliers hard (when necessary) and being assertive to ensure I get what my employer is legally and contractually entitled to, but I am getting weary of this continual battle with retailers/hoteliers/airlines who are wilfully abusing the law. I can only imagine that individuals who are not as clued up or as a assertive as HfP subscribers are losing out either through ignorance, frustration or anxiety at the hoops they are being forced to jump through.

    • Neil Spellings says:

Thanks for this – I got the same email when trying to get a refund for two cancelled flights, one on a FTV. Will call and see if I can get the cash refund

  • Manya says:

Additional data point – got 35K MR points as incentive to not cancel Platinum Reward Card. Asked if this was maximum and Rep said it was account specific but this was maximum for me. Accepted.

I don’t see the FS offer across any of my cards.

  • SteveKicks says:

New Amex offer for me this morning: Spend £200 or more with Air France and KLM, get £30 back

    Expires 30/07/21
