The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 30th June

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Always clear cache before making your purchase. Use private browsing or incognito mode. Never browse on the retailer page before making your purchase. Also never click to another website once you’ve clicked on the retailer website to make your purchase.

I manage it by not using it unless there’s no other alternative where rewards aren’t clawed back.

Anyone been to the Langley lately, someone mentioned a very good pub nearby but can’t remember the name?

Avoid Iver. The Green Man in Denham is good & The Black Horse in Fulmer.

I stayed last weekend. Extremely impressive. Platinum Elite upgraded to a junior suite. Spa is sublime and very quiet. Recommend you book restaurant and spa in advance. Staff very good too.

The crooked Billet is very close, decent food and reasonable beer, the travellers who frequent it can be a handful , but by and large they are OK.

IHG points expiry Q for you – husband’s account home page says “We have paused points expiration until June 30, 2021 for all IHG Rewards members” but elsewhere says “Points expire 31/12/2021”. Which is correct?
He no longer has Elite status – hasn’t had a stay since 9/18 – cancelled a reward night booking in 9/19 – and bought points in a bonus offer 6/20. Would want to buy points today if need be (to beat one expiry date & as the double points purchase bonus ends today). TIA

Got 30k referral bonus on my Business Amex Plat. Highest I have seen it on this card.

Anyone else having issues topping up Revolut from a Creation credit card? In previous weeks I’ve had no issues topping up £1k. Now I can’t even do £50. Creation insist they are not stopping anything.

    • Reney says:

The 2 factor authentication is broken again since yesterday, for me anyway. I find the amount below which the 2FA triggers will work.

This happened last month (or earlier this month), it will eventually get fixed. Speaking to Revolut just ends up with them explaining to me how the top up needs to be built up over time instead of recognizing a tech error.

Working on one account but not the other today!

      Worked okay for me today

I’ve only had it happen when I’ve returned an item, it is really annoying when you buy 5 items return 1 and lose all the points. Have you ever raised a query asking why they were clawed back?

    • Brian W says:

Read the terms, if you return items you lose the points, it’s there in black and white and to be fair understandable. The other claw backs not so much.

An update on the Amex Lounge at Wimbledon. Went there yesterday. The queues are excessive especially when it’s raining. Expect to wait 30-45 mins when it’s raining. I waited about 20 but the queue was short. All Amex cardholders are welcome and are allowed 1 guest power cardholder. They ditched the Resy system as there was too much demand, so its first come first serve.

What you get for free: not much. Namely, a radio (unless you picked one up earlier), charger with a cable and sunscreen. Your first gets all these also. As you go up there is also an opportunity to get a photo above the outer courts or towards the Centre Court – I recommend doing it.

Food and drink is extremely limited, prices are as elsewhere. You don’t get anything free. Ended up getting a coffee and Pimms – same quality as elsewhere on site.

Here are two main seating areas: indoors and covered terrace. If covered terrace is an option, I recommend it. Rain doesn’t get it.

You are only allowed 45 mins in the lounge but that’s probably enough given what’s on offer.

Bottom line, if the queue is short, give it a go, otherwise you are not missing much.
