The HfP chat thread – Tuesday 29th June

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Just checked my Amex platinum and found £175 Waitrose cash back offer valid till 17 July and in my saved tab. Can’t for the life of me remember saving it and don’t recall seeing it mentioned in hfp emails.
    Nice unexpected bonus.

    • VerdantBacon says:

Article on this in January and discussed for many chat threads following its release!

      • Vern says:

Yes. I received 154 back on 27 January and then another 26 on 31 January.

    • Andrew says:

That’s been there since January/ February!! It’s the Platinum retention bonus for the first half of the year. Perhaps for people who hadn’t saved it past a certain date they auto-enrolled you as it’s open to all card members.

  • Eligold says:

Why won’t deliveroo allow me to add an American express card to my account?
Trying to use the gold card offer before the month is up

    • TGLoyalty says:

The name must match the name on your account. Not an issue because you can put any name in for Amex.

  • Anna says:

That’s it, we are definitely going to be banned from Europe now 🤣 ⚽

    • Lord Doncaster says:

Frau Merkel will have a face like a lemon until she retires now…oh the indignity 😂

    • Luke says:

21 day quarantine for Brits visiting Germany, effective immediately.

      • Wembley wonder says:

        🤣🤣🤣⚽️⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

      • Sandgrounder says:

Tonight’s result really opens up that side of the draw for Denmark.

      • David D says:

@Luke, do you not mean Weeks 2-0 Days?

  • mutley says:

The tool Johnson was asked today about travel to the US and in general, his answer was just pure bluster, not a clue, doesn’t seem to care a jot, went of on a tangent about vaccination rates. This W*nker need someone to tell him in simple terms that his governments continuing travel ban is causing people to lose their jobs and livelihoods., as well as potentially being illegal. Rant over.

    • Louise K says:

Not sure BJ is solely responsible for the ongoing US ban though. EU are allowing incoming US passengers but not the other way around.

      • Andrew says:

Absolutely. But people love to blame him for everything – if we’d lost the football it would have been down to him I’m sure!

  • Sandra says:

I just wish that spectators (from both sides) would respect each other’s national anthem without booing.

    • Sandra says:

Posted out of synch with football comments for some reason ⚽️🏟

    • Anna says:

Absolutely – what was that about?! Shocking lack of manners, especially from the host nation.

      • TJones says:

Klinsmann is so classy, decent and gracious in defeat. Best pundit by a mile.

    • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

Mutley, I believe the problem is the Americans aren’t welcoming us at the moment, of course it’s easier to blame Boris if you don’t have a full grasp of the facts.

      • Anna says:

These comments are all over the place today!

      • mutley says:

I don’t doubt for a minute that the do nothing Biden administration are not helping by expediting the process. Indeed, my American colleagues including the Democrats amongst them are becoming increasingly disillusioned with their administration. My point is that the head of the UK government is piss poor and should be able to come up with a credible answer when asked a relatively straight forward question, without the usual BS bluster.

        • Yuff says:

Is that what every politician is guilty of, personally I find plenty a lot worse than Boris

          • TJones says:

There are plenty worse than Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson (eg the astonishingly thick Andrew Bridgen) but they are not in positions of power. Priti Patel shares Johnson’s lethal combination of over-confidence and lack of ability, but I have no doubt that we have had the worst possible PM at the worst possible time.

  • Anna says:

Back in travel news – apparently Malta is now requiring the printed NHS letter as proof of vaccination which can take up to 5 days to arrive, not great for anyone departing in the next few days!

    • Chris says:

Will they not accept the PDF copy that can be downloaded from the app?

      • Anna says:

I don’t seem to be able to post a link to the article but they have said the QR code can be forged so want the NHS bar code. Sounds rather spurious and could be that they don’t have the technology to deal with it.

        • Gary says:

The PDF copy fr NHS app says “your unique 2D barcode” at the top. Not entirely sure you would get a different barcode/letter by having it posted to you.

        • Chris says:

“QR code can be forged” … does not sound right … the data is digitally signed AFAIK in the same way as the EU’s own scheme is. It could just be they have been working to get the EU wide support online ready for the 1st they haven’t yet got everything in place to support “reciprocity” with others.

  • mutley says:

and before anyone asks, I voted for both Cameron and May, but not Johnson as his track record suggests/suggested he can’t be trusted.

    • Anna says:

Mutley, your comments tonight are like quantum particles – no-one can predict where they are going to appear 🤣

  • Zoe says:

Wimbledon Centre Court tickets for tomorrow showing available now!

    • AJA says:

Talking Wimbledon sad scenes tonight with Serena Williams’ exit with her ankle injury. And following on from Mannarino’s exit with his knee injury in his match against Federer. I hope both recover swiftly.

    • Zoe says:

And for Number One court now too,
