We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Classic…my wife just called me in a panic as she’s accidentally washed her Amex PRG card in the machine. Her first concern…”I hope it hasn’t washed all the points away”! 😂

Update: I have a slot at the sky Garden! That’s you all for your suggestions. Eatley was amazing and we are now slightly tipsy. Wont have time to do much else once we leave Eatly!

    • mr_jetlag says:

Nice one! be sure to walk all the way round (I prefer the back view, although haven’t been there since the Helter Skelter aka Broadgate was topped)

Also just noticed my *ahem* R-rated comment on your earlier thread got edited away!

        • Super Secret Stuff says:

Hahaha thanks for the advice, I noticed that too. Made me chuckle

Memory of a sive today, now completely forgot what you said 🤣

    • Liz says:

We are going to London in Sept and I’ve just read about the Sky Garden. Plan on booking the Brasserie when the dates come available. Looking forward to it!

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

I would also book the sky Garden, being sat here right now I can tell you it’s worth it and a bit less pricey.

I’m also staying in London in September, will be returning Hahaha

  • Lyn says:

I happened to look at a hotel outside the UK earlier today both with and without the promotion.

Depending on the specific hotel, the promotion is either 2 paid + 1 free, or 3 + 1 or 4 + 1. Do you know which applies to your particular hotel?

In my case the 4th night would have been free and it certainly seemed like a genuine savings over the regular prices for that hotel.

Opened a new Amex Platinum about a week ago… have used it for a few purchases but I’m not getting any offers at all…. even the Shop Small didn’t show… any ideas why?

    • Peter K says:

It can take longer than a week. I think if nothing after 3 weeks then worry.

    • Jimbob says:

Took nearly a month for me, before offers started showing

  • Lady London says:

…ed and surprised you are that this is taking so long to resolve. If they still don’t credit in full -give them 14 days – after 21 go to FOS after 14 tell them you will in another 7.

FOS costs complained-about co £650 (may have increased) regardless of outcome

*above continuation of Reply to AEB after Wordpress went bonkers on Reply handling & placement again.

  • Tom says:

Just received the call from voco Solihull regarding their closure of the hotel until at least September. Would’ve been my second voco since St David’s in Cardiff. Fortunately, I need to be in Nottingham around that time now, so considering the CP Nottingham. Would anyone recommend any better alternatives in Nottingham?

    • John says:

Hilton in the city centre gets mixed reviews but they have always been good to me

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

Slim pickings in Nottingham. Lace Market Hotel or Hart’s are the best options. From the big brands, the Park Plaza, CP, Hilton and Mercure are mediocre. I’d probably pick in that order. Jury’s also only ok. The Doubletree gets good reviews but it’s a decent bus ride into town.

      • Tariq says:

Stayed at the Doubletree a few times and like it there. Likewise the Delta – similar distance out from the City, but nice hotel.

      • Tom says:

Thanks for your replies John and Andrew, I’ll check your kind suggestions out.

      • Degsy says:

        +1
personally would avoid the Hilton – it feels old/shabby and the rooms are quite poky (although it didn’t stop me doing a couple of mattress runs last year to maintain gold status match)

Anyone tried to trigger Hawksmoor at home GC yet?

  • KBuffett says:

Morrison’s are ending their 10% off for key workers on 5th July
