The HfP chat thread – Monday 28th June

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Flying today from Manchester. Is there any lounge open at the moment? Checking priority pass app seems that all of them close at the moment, can anyone confirm it? Thanks!

  • Andrew says:

Looks like BA are trimming their schedule over the summer (school) holidays – our BA Holidays booking to Gran Canaria has been cancelled on the outbound (31 July).

    • Anna says:

Have they offered you an alternative though?
Canaries are still on the amber list so possibly demand is low, though I’m still hopeful that the double-jabbed and children won’t have to quarantine on return by August. (And that Spain doesn’t introduce quarantine on arrival!)

      • Andrew says:

No alternative offered. We’re not overly fussed however – I’m 40 in the autumn and my wife isn’t 40 until next year so our second jabs aren’t until August: the possible double-jab-exemption wouldn’t apply to us (in common with many parents of school-age children during this year’s summer school holidays).

Fingers crossed for my 40th weekend away.

        • Anna says:

That’s probably more convenient for you then as you can get a straightforward refund on a BA holiday. Fingers crossed for the 40th!

          • s879 says:

My flight on 24th July to IST was moved to 25th but now that’s cancelled too! Turkey is still on the Red List so I am not sure if it’s even worth rebooking.

          • Andrew says:

            Thanks Anna!

In the meantime we can concentrate on a trip to Cornwall! Plus I flew over the weekend (BRR-GLA-LHR) so I’ve got the flying itch out of my system!

        • Tracey says:

Try rebooking your second jabs on the national booking site. It should now allow you to book with an 8 week gap.

        • KS says:

If you haven’t already, you might want to rebook your second jab. You can now get one at 8 weeks rather than 11-12 weeks. I was booked for mid-August but rebooked for mid-July.

          • Andrew says:

Thanks all – I managed to move my appointment forward to late July (8.5 weeks after my first jab) but still a smidge too late. Never mind!

          • TGLoyalty says:

Walk in centres will be accepting people for second jabs, there’s a list on the nhs website, I reckon you could get it a week earlier than your booking.

        • Yvo says:

I was volunteering in London today and we were doing second dose Pfizer as long as you have a three week gap, four week gap for AZ. Rules change hour by hour by they seem desperate to get everyone done at this point.
Keep on top of your local centres, keep dropping in and be lovely to the staff…it could make the difference 😉

    • Sam G says:

First outbound is now the 4th Aug, so you’d potentially be able to switch to that

  • BJ says:

New amex offers out. NCP for first time I think, £2 back on £8. A pet food supply company also there, and return of L’Occitane 10% on £60 spend.

    • Andrew says:

All of those were loaded last week, NCP was last Monday I think.

  • BJ says:

It seems not that long ago that I used to think 40 was ancient, now I wish I still did. Good luck.

    • Andrew says:

Haha! Thanks BJ. Ask my two kids and ages seem to go in increments from 0 to 10, then 20, 60 and 85!

  • Sandgrounder says:

Full marks to MAN on speed of parking refund. Requested online yesterday, back on my Amex this morning. Following the cancellation of my second set of MAN-KEF-MAN flights I’m going to have to brave LTN (shudder).

  • AndyW says:

Question I am hoping someone might be able to answer. Can you use the Virgin upgrade vouchers for others and not travel?

  • SteveJ says:

Someone (can’t remember who) was staying at the Holiday Inn Express Poole recently and offered to write a review upon return.

If you’re reading would value your feedback, we’re due to stay soon and whilst expecting minimal from the breakfast etc are hoping the rooms are at least clean and towels are readily refreshable.

    • Jeff says:

      Hi
Stayed there twice in the past week on way to and from Jersey. Clean and tidy, reception polite. They are keen to know your arrival window for breakfast to manage social distancing. Breakfast choices ok, they are a combo of self serve (cold) and served hot. Bar area with TVs is usual HIX level. Car parking £6. All in all a good 26000 point redemption

  • Laura says:

Apologies for the rain this week.. going on a walking holiday in Dorset and staying in a static caravan hahaha

    • Number9 says:

Not your fault Laura, Wimbledon starts today. Have a great time in the wilds of Dorset.
