IHG has launched a new hotel cashback deal with American Express.

If you targetted, you will see this deal under the ‘Offers’ tab for one or more of your cards on the statement page. You need to opt-in.

Here is the deal:

IHG launches a new hotel cashback deal with American Express
  • receive £50 back when you spend £200 (presumably cumulative)
  • spend must be made by 30th September

IMPORTANT: For the UK hotels, the list is in postcode order. This means that the London hotels are scattered around under E, N, S and W rather than lumped together.

Participating brands include Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, voco and Staybridge Suites.

voco St David’s Cardiff is pictured below. The slightly less enticing Holiday Inn Express London Wandsworth is NOT included but I like the image – whoever took that photograph deserves an award for making it look good ….

Want to stay in a posher IHG hotel?

IHG has already launched a similar cashback deal for its premium brands.

This deal is worth £100 cashback on a £350+ spend at participating InterContinental, Regent and Kimpton hotels in Europe.

The deadline for spending for the premium brands deal is 31st August.

This offer was restricted to the first 10,000 people to register, so if you didn’t save it when it first appeared you may be too late.

The cashback will double up with IHG’s current sale

As we covered yesterday, IHG has launched a sale covering its European hotels. This includes InterContinental, Kimpton, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo, amongst other brands.

You can book between now and 2nd August.

All stays must be completed by 30th January 2022.

Pricing is based on a 30% discount to the Best Flexible Rate. You need to be an IHG Rewards member to get this price – everyone else receives a smaller 20% discount.

Important, whilst you must pay a one night deposit when you book, your room can be cancelled without charge, and your deposit refunded, up to seven nights before arrival.

Because the hotel is meant to take a one night deposit when you book, this could be a way of triggering the cashback even if your stay will be after the closing date of 30th September if your hotel was £200+ per night. (EDIT: comments below suggest that the chance of the hotel actually charging you the deposit in advance is slim, so this is potentially not a good idea.)

Full details of the sale are on this special page of the IHG website.

Don’t forget to register for IHG’s Summer bonus points offer

If you stay before 16th August, you can also take part in IHG’s Summer bonus points promotion.

It is a little weak but clearly better than nothing. You get no bonus on your first qualifying stay after registration, double base points on your second stay and triple base points on your third stay.

Existing bookings count and all IHG hotels are taking part.

Pedant: South london postcodes are SE, SW not S which is Sheffield.

  • Andrew says:

The offer terms state that it’s only on checkout spend, so I hope you’re right that it works with the sale rates – this requires the offer to work with online billing and also to work cumulatively, unless like you say one night alone costs £200, you would want your £100 deposit and £100 checkout spend to trigger the offer. Do we have confirmation from Amex of this or just speculative hope?

    • Claire says:

Yes terms and conditions say excludes online so would this work? Tempting as I could rebook a night we had booked on December on points.

      • John says:

European IHGs charge online payments at the checkout

        • Andrew says:

So if they charge everything at checkout, it wouldn’t work for a deposit in the sale for a stay past the September offer end date as Rob suggests it would. Conflicting advice here.

          • John says:

I haven’t looked at what IHG is doing with its rates now, but the point was that “online” payments are charged by the front desk of the hotel. When they charge you is more or less up to them but if you want to be charged immediately you can try to contact the hotel.

        • southlondonphil says:

Booked one of these rates 3 days ago for this weekend as my “2nd stay” and have yet to be billed the 1st night deposit, so, assuming it works, Amex off popped up just in time!

    • TGLoyalty says:

      Always works.

  • Rob says:

Trust a Manc to know about London postcodes . Oh the irony.

  • AndyC says:

“The slightly less enticing Holiday Inn Express London Wandworth”

    *Wandsworth.

  • Voldemort says:

HIEX Gibraltar not included. Yeah, of course it isn’t…

  • Backpacker says:

The ihg promo is better than Marriott who still have not bothered!

    • RussellH says:

Received an e-mailed offer from Marriott yesterday. “Elevate your points balance with Your World Rewards”. Not sure who or what Your World Rewards is, but the offer is 4000 for first stay, 2000 for second, and 4000 for the third. Ts+Cs seem quite clear that I get the points if I stay. Not massive, but extra 4000 points for one stay at a cheaper Marriott is not nothing. Stay by 21 September 2021.

  • Mark says:

Crowne plaza Plymouth not included and the 1 night I’m going is £280 a night!! Typical

    • John says:

I’m sure you could find a better place to spend that kind of money

      • Mark says:

Even the premier inn is £200+ (firework champions) bumps the price up

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

Used to be £120 a night for a standard room… its nice but I’d never pay £280!

P.s. the top floor resturant is a Marco Piere White and its got great views over the Hoe!

  • Sandgrounder says:

Anyone had the ‘Stay Longer Pay Less’ IHG credit card 10k bonus post? If so, how long did it take? I see from the Ts and Cs it doesn’t post with the usual points credit.

    • Andrew says:

Based on Creation’s track record, I wouldn’t expect to ever really see these points.
