If you have American Express Business Platinum or American Express Business Gold, you are running out of time to claim your free Dell products.

As a reminder:

  • Business Platinum cardholders get £150 of free Dell credit per year – £75 to spend between 1st January and 30th June and £75 to spend between 1st July and 31st December – apply here, review here
  • Business Gold cardholders get £100 of free Dell credit per year – £50 to spend between 1st January and 30th June and £50 to spend between 1st July and 31st December – apply here, review here (this card is FREE for the first year so it really is £100 of free money to spend at Dell)
Dell American Express offer

You MUST opt in via this page of the American Express website.

If you also have a standard American Express cashback offer for 10% back on Dell spending, make sure you register for that too. It will double up, so you actually get 110% of your spending back up to £50 / £75. This is what I got when I bought some items back in March:

What should you buy?

The Dell trade site is here. Dell Outlet and the personal site also seen to work.

Laptop deals:

Dell is best known for its XPS range of laptops. You can see details here.

There are decent discounts on the new 2021 range at the moment:

  • XPS 13 – £123 off at £756 + VAT
  • XPS 13 2-in-1 – £180 off at £1,108 + VAT
  • XPS 15 – £290 off at £1,659 + VAT
  • XPS 17 – £396 off at £2,432 + VAT

Accessories:

If you don’t need any IT equipment at the moment, take a look here at the Accessories section.

Dell sells a range of laptop bags, briefcases, messenger bags, laptop sleeves and backpacks – see this page of their website.

You might find something here to use with your statement credit. Remember that the prices shown exclude 20% VAT so if you want 100% of your costs covered you want an item selling for less than £42 + VAT if you have Business Gold or £63 for Business Platinum. Delivery is free on most items.

Dell also has a decent range of mice, keyboards and monitors which will work with all computers, not just Dell models – details here.

If you really don’t need anything, consider buying non-electrical items (backpack, laptop bag etc) and donating them to a local charity shop. They should sell for a decent amount if still wrapped and you may be able to get tax relief on the sale price.

One thing …. ensure that the items you choose are in stock for immediate despatch. When you look at the delivery date, you will see that many of the items advertised are not actually available for a few weeks. You need something that is in stock to ensure that your Amex Business card is charged by 30th June.

You don’t even need to be an existing prime member.

I signed up yesterday with the 30 day free and then registered for the £7 offer, bought the voucher and got the credit all in the space of 10 minutes or so.

  • CarpalTravel says:

There is a Dell 4k monitor I wanted to get (I actually want to get two so was hoping to do to orders 1 month apart) but has been OOS for weeks now. Looks like the £75 is going to be missed. 🙁

    • Freddy says:

Buy some accessories now and try again in July when you have a new £75 to spend

      • Mr(s) Entitled says:

Buy something you can eBay. You might end up with less than £75 after fees etc but it is better than £0.

        • CarpalTravel says:

Thanks both, good ideas but really I just wanted to save the money on items my business actually needs.

  • Mike says:

    £2,432 + VAT for a lap top ! – gosh that is a lot

    • Memesweeper says:

The XPS is a very good device indeed.

      • Lady London says:

Is the XPS as resistant to travel and bumps as the Thinkpad X1 Carbon though

I had a Dell XPS commuting by plane every week a few years ago and it had to be replaced 4 months from new. Whereas my clunky old Thinkpad has been to the Nile and back over years and has survived.

        • Babyg says:

have both a 2016 xps13 and a 2019 xps15, the 13 was a great bit of kit, the 15 not so much, plagued by nonstop fan noise, dodgy drivers for wifi/audio and generally not the best experience with the 15…

          • Rob says:

Rhys has a 15, as did Anika before him (personal choice in both cases).

I used to have a 15 but found it a tediously boring computer and, over the past 3 years, we’ve switched our entire household to HP Spectre laptops, because they are funky!

I’ve had other Spectre users start talking to me about them in airport lounges which never happened with the Dell.

    • BuildBackBetter says:

The £756 + vat one should be sufficient for most users

      • Lady London says:

Hmmmm… I get discounts on HP Spectre…. but had always refused as earlier HP’s just could not stand up to my tough use +lots of travelling.

If there is a small enough HP Spectre I might take a look although I suspect I will be drawn back to the new-shape X1 Carbon

        • Rob says:

The 13 inch one which I bought my son a couple of months ago (after he trod on an old one and broke it, they are not super strong) is ludicrously small. No bezel anywhere. In fact, I reckon the current 15 inch version is the same size as the 5-year old 13 inch one he wrecked.

        • CarpalTravel says:

Back when Thinkpad was still an IBM product, a sales guy came in and one of the first things he did was lob his laptop on the floor from waist height. He then stood on it (whilst closed still), then picked it up, powered it on and used it for his presentation.

This was to (very effectively, in my eyes) demonstrate a ruggedness and almost over engineered approach to their products. It made quite a few of us gasp, as did their quotation too when it arrived….

£7 Amazon bonus credit worked for me a few minutes ago.

  • Joe says:

£7 top-up worked for me. Thanks.

  • Allan says:

Worked a treat – £7 arrived a couple of minutes later!

    Thanks!

  • Dace says:

I am making the leap and setting yp my own business soon. Just out of interest is there any way of getting a Plat at the beginning or do you need to prove turnover/a decent wage (I hope to get there in time but I would ideally like to take advantage of the Dell offers and also the other benefits of the card.)

    TIA for any replies.

    • Rob says:

Plat Business and Gold Business take anyone with a business bank account (which can have a £0 balance) as long as your own personal credit standing is OK, because you (and not your business) are liable for the card debt.
