Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

The HfP chat thread – Thursday 17th June

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Lufthansa Y passengers travelling from UK, Germany and USA can now buy LH lounge access for 29 Euros

  • r* says:

Its been a month since I added a supplementary to marriott amex but the 3000 sup bonus has yet to appear. Support says it can take 3 months, is there anything I can do other than wait 3 months?

    • E says:

I have this problem too. I have made several calls and am now at the 60 day point. Doesn’t look like Amex will move before 90 days.

    • TGLoyalty says:

      Strange I got mine instantly.

    • Louie says:

      Same issue with the AERRC.

  • Lion says:

Hello, I’m trying to get a refund for Avios flights booked, not a voucher. Unfortunately the Avios phone line is not taking calls, and the old Java trick on the BA website no longer works. Does anyone know how to do this?

    • Rhys says:

Call the BA number and they will re-route you to the Avios team.

  • Jonathan says:

Re Tuesdays Dragon Pass article . $20 refund appeared just now on my Revolut card .

  • Kai says:

My payment at Hotel Indigo Manchester just triggered Shop Small?! Had I known I’d have split across 5 cards…

  • Jimmy Mac says:

Is anyone aware of any of the ‘Big’ hotel chains (Radisson, IHG, Accor, Hilton) having any UK properties that aren’t just rooms in a hotel?

Anything along the lines of apartments, lodges, self-catering, that kind of place?

    • Adam says:

      IHG Staybridge Suites.

      • Anna says:

The 3 Staybridge suites properties I’ve looked at in the UK only sleep 2 in the standard rooms, which is annoying given the extra space and facilities. If you want an extra person you have to book a 1 bed suite with a separate living room (not available on points), though I think it might be 3 max in one of those. I’m surprised they didn’t make the properties more attractive to the family market if they’re all like that.

        • Genghis says:

YMMV. We had a three person booking at Staybridge LHR but received a call today that they had to cancel the booking as still being used by HMG. Got a bit of compo out of it so not too bad. Will prob cancel the holiday anyway.

    • Ikaz says:

IHG has a few Staybridge suites, Accor has Adagio, Marriott has residence inns are all self catering if I remember correctly. Search for those on google to see where in the country they are. Typically ~London, Birmingham and Liverpool as far as I know

    • Sandgrounder says:

      Hilton Grand Vacation Craigendarroch Suites.

      • Doommonger says:

Yeah only if you want to be hounded morning noon and night to buy and become an owner

        Doomster

    • Jimmy Mac says:

I should’ve been a bit clearer. I meant properties that you don’t have to spend time in lifts, walking along enclosed hotel corridors etc.

Something that was more outdoor than in.

Something that would please us COVID worriers 🙂

    • BuildBackBetter says:

Marriott residence inn. Rob recently did a review.

    • Harry T says:

  • bill says:

All of England to be added to Jersey’s travel ‘red list’. The whole of England will turn red on Tuesday 29 June.

Scotland is already classed as ‘red’, while IOM, Wales and Northern Ireland will remain ‘green’.

    https://www.itv.com/news/channel/2021-06-17/all-of-england-to-be-added-to-jerseys-travel-red-list

    • bill says:

Red classifications on Jersey’s border control system last for at least two weeks and require all passengers to self isolate for at least ten days on arrival into Jersey, unless they have been fully vaccinated or are under the age of 18.

    • Ja says:

Thankfully I travel tomorrow and come back Tuesday 22nd

    • BuildBackBetter says:

“The whole of England will turn red”
      Corbyn would love that.

    • Harry T says:

Presume this is Delta variant related?

    • Anna says:

I don’t feel so unclean now, we were on the red list anyway! Thankfully none of my plans to escape the country involve the Channel Islands.
