We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anyone applied for the HSBC switch bonus? Any experiences on how fast that bonus gets paid? Been a hassle to get the account opened in the first place, wouldn’t be surprised if one has to contact HSBC for the switch bonus too..

    • Magic Mike says:

Got my bonus about a month after the switch.

      • Jim says:

Not too bad! The T&C says within 20 days for the 19th April switch, & been over a month now – might give them another call

        • C says:

Mine didn’t get applied automatically – had to chase! Was manually applied by customer service in the end.

    • Lev441 says:

Don’t bother – I’ve applied back in May during the last switch offer.. and I’ve hit stumbling block after stumbling block to get the account opened. I’ve had to go into branch 3 times with different documents – never ever had to jump through so many hoops for a current account before…

  • Fred says:

Whats the latest thinking concerning BA bookings, specifically concerning BA 241 booking refunds, extensions and FTVs? Is the advice still to take the FTV…so as to prolong the validity of the BA241 voucher to 2023? Is the BA>FTV option going to remain/be extended? Are BA241 vouchers going to get any extension beyond April 2022? Thanks in advance!

    • Rob says:

It’s a gamble. I have been taking full refunds but it BA announced the end of FTV I would make a call then on whether to make some 241 dummy bookings.

      • Fred says:

Thanks Rob. Here’s hoping BA give notice re termination of FTV option.

  • Josh says:

What sort of compensation could we expect from a complaint to BA regarding our recent flight experience in J?

    Combination of:

    No lounge access
    Crew rudeness
Broken J seat (full flight so no switch possible) meaning couldn’t lay flat for a red eye

And the kicker: Meal request didn’t go through to crews system (despite me having the email showing we requested it well in advance) so was unable to eat the entire flight

There were some other issues that my current jetlagged brain cannot remember

This cost us a BA 241 voucher and a hefty amount of avios + taxes & fees (US flight) so I’m fuming that we couldve had a better experience in WTP or WT.

    Thanks!

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

I would say you should at least get something, submit a complaint and see. I’d accept anything over £400 per person

      • Josh says:

Thanks for the response. Do you know the best channel to file this complaint? Email/phone/social media?

      • ChrisC says:

        BA won’t offer cash.

        They will offer avios.

The CSM should have recorded it on their iPad and it normally goes direct to your account once they have uploaded their flight report but it can take a couple of days.

    • Andrew says:

For those issues I would expect 10k Avios based on my experience of raising similar complaints. Lounge access they will blame on the “current situation”
(Aka Covid excuses), crew rudeness is just your opinion and they will just say sorry you felt that way, so the compensation would be for the seat damage and meal issue. Use the web form to complain and it will be dealt with by the complaints department, if you’re Gold or above you’ll get a call to say sorry etc and offer you something, if you’re below Gold you’ll get an email.

      • Oli says:

I’ve had 80,000 in 2019 for a broken Club World seat. They had given me an option for an alternative of a voucher of £400.

      • Mr. AC says:

10k seems low. I got 15k for broken IFA on a 4 hour flight back in the glory days where BA was running ex-BMI birds with lie flat business class seats on the Moscow route.

      • Babyg says:

5k during in October 2020, club with broken screen, and inedible food and no lounge in SEZ…

    • H says:

      80k avios

      • Gin and Tonic Please says:

+1. I’ve had 80k Avios before for a broken CW seat on a red eye.

        • Gin and Tonic Please says:

Should say that I specifically asked for this in my complaint, on the basis of what I’d seen other people were reporting on FT. BA agreed with no question.

  • Yorkshire rich says:

I remember someone telling me HGI snowdonia wasn’t, I’ve just used it for cardiff
