The HfP chat thread – Monday 14th June

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Virgin Money sends the Virgin Red promo code

My wife has received this from the CHat people at Virgin Money

However they or her cannot see where to input this to redeem it.

    Any ideas???

    Ta

    • 747_Brat says:

You will find “apply a promo code” under the account section on the Virgin Red website or app.

    • Grant says:

Virgin Red app > account (right hand side of menu bar on bottom) > promo codes

  • Oli says:

Can I pay the Seagulls directly with Solihull or does it has to be via Bendy?

    • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

Think it has to be via the Bendy route – or Che, which is what I use…

      • Anthony says:

Can you still earn Club card points for paying the seagulls with a Tesco debit card?

        • Genghis says:

“Still”? Were you ever able to? I remember trying multiple things ages ago and found 6012 ineligible.

          • Anthony says:

I’m sure it used to, no points posting now so must of been stopped. Does Hong Kong via Che or bendy work? Any charges?

        • Reney says:

@Anthony, I would read the chat threads from this weekend, a lot.of people have posted about experience with HK.

      • Alan says:

Can you pay via Bendy? it has never worked for me.

    • Oli says:

Thanks – I only have Bendy. Do I need to top-up my Solihull account on the day I pay the Seagulls via Bendy to not incur interests?

      • lumma says:

No, it’s only topping up Che that charges interest

      • MJ says:

Can anyone remind me of what Earny and Beardy refer to please?

        • Reney says:

Earny? You meant Ernie which is NS&I premium bonds, and beardy is Virgin CC

          • Aston100 says:

Reney, when these routes eventually stop working for you, you know who you need to blame.

  • Scottydogg says:

Anyone else STILL not got their IHG Premium free hotel night after hitting their spend target ?
I hit mine back around february , nothing went onto my account , everytime i phoned i would be feed another excuse , or ‘it will be in by the end of this week / month’ etc
Ended up going down the route of formal complaint as i was told then it would get investigated further. I had my annual fee refunded , with a letter to say that they look to resolve the issue within 8 weeks . That was now 11 weeks ago and ive heard nothing from them since . Tried sending an email last week and got no reply …..

    • Lumma says:

Don’t you need to wait until your anniversary date to get the free night voucher? That’s why it’s complex if you no longer want to pay the annual fee and cancel.

      • Chrisasaurus says:

        This is correct

      • Scottydogg says:

Anniversary date has been and gone, back in february .

      • Anna says:

Yes if everything’s working properly it arrives around your 12 month statement date. Would have thought this would have been pointed out to Scottydog by Creation though if hadn’t got to the end of the year!

        • Anna says:

Apologies, posted before I saw your reply – people have reported having to get the FSO involved, it seems unbelievably difficult to resolve if it doesn’t go right first time!

      • TGLoyalty says:

Why on earth would you want to cancel the premium card!

    • Yorkie Aid says:

Same here. Mine was due in March 2021 but still not received. They told me it would be resolved ASAP but no compo offered.

      • Scottydogg says:

Just tell them you want the £99 back for all the hassle , they refunded mine with no fuss

  • BP says:

Anyone else finding the creative ones are declining more and more bendy ernie transactions? £7.5k used to be no problem, now I’m lucky if £2k isn’t declined.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Nope … I guess your card is marked.

    • Rui N. says:

Anything over £2k seemed to be a lottery for me a few weeks ago. If I do 2 transactions in a row of 1999+1998 (or other random values below £2k; my daily limit is £4.5k) it works fine, so I just do that.

  • Rui N. says:

I know this has been discussed 100 times before, but I haven’t had a new Amex in 2 years 🙂 how do you go about adding a new card to your existing online account when it refuses to do so? (something about not being possible to add the new card to the existing account) do I remember people discussing a way to trick the system into accepting the new card in the existing account?

  • Track says:

Need a reminder: can I check in a piece of luggage on BA HBO fare, as OW Sapphire?

    • Oli says:

No you can’t on HBO. Need to have at least bag bag included in your fare to have the second bag free.

    • Andrew says:

But with all other OW airlines you do still get the free bag on HBO fares. As you do if you have Virgin gold on an Virgin HBO. As usual BA thinks it’s special and can treat its frequent flyers with contempt – and we let them!

  • raz says:

Does anyone have a code/ referal for Igloo? It seams that it’s the cheapest for me at this moment anyway.

  • TJ says:

Had to wait for a for a couple of seats yesterday at BA T5 lounge. I’ve seen it busier but the problem is that numerous seats are out of bounds due to social distancing. The table only service, however, was very efficient and quick.
