The HfP chat thread – Tuesday 8th June

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    IHG Rewards

IHG Rewards I believe the new dynamic system thinks its customers are “simple minded” . Why does IHG think I am going to stay in an INDIGO in York for 75000. Why does an HIE on the outskirts of York think 49000 is good value. London hotels are charging fair rates!
    Something amiss.

A new low today from Amex chat, tried to deny honouring the offer credit for Pasta Evangelists on account of “you have used Stripe for the payment processor”.

Not only is this not in the customer’s control, but there is literally no other way to pay Pasta Evangelists. And so, if what the operative claimed is true, there is no way for a single customer, ever, to actually avail of the offer. Which, presumably, makes it false advertising!

Just call, don’t use chat. Chat is a useless function for such things.

Agreed. Just call them. I am sure LL will be here to tell you to seek a high court judgement against them soon enough. But, give them a call tomorrow and they will sort it. Zero stress.

Nah. Amex is shooting themselves in the foot by repeatedly no longer providing the benefit promised by their promotion after customers relied on Amex’s map and lists of participating merchants and often even Amex signs in shop windows as well. Cardholders spent money only to have Amex refuse the promotional reward due to factors beyond the customer’s control.

I think Amex is doing enough damage to themselves all by themselves by this deterioration in service quality. No need for FOS as the promotion wording probably has weasel words to let Amex off. My friend Chris at the Advertising Standards Authority might be interested though resulting in Amex being told to clean up its act on materials provided as part of a promotion.

    • Char Char says:

I had this happen last year they credited on chat without issue.

It’s their promo so they need to make more of an effort or it’s false advertising
