Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anyone who thinks this “points” game isn’t worth it.. just got 5 miles seats home on the last flight from Faro on Monday night! Thank you Rob and team!

    • Doommonger says:

Take the last flight from Faro
and I’ll meet you at the airport
can you take your PCR test
coz all our plans have come to nought

Doomey the bard of Watford with apologies to the Monkees

Had anyone started doing their Shop Small Spree yet? Finding it harder now to do the usual given its £15 not £10 but still managed to trigger it 4 times on a my weekly weekend grocery/butcher/fishmonger shop!

Not going out of my way this time, not worth it

    • the_real_a says:

Not bothered at all this time. Will maybe hit it once for a takeaway and once for a bill payment. Otherwise not going out of my way.

was going to kick things off at vapiano today but DS decided he wanted an Honest burger instead. not too fussed as it’s getting more and more of a faff tbh.

As useful as a soggy mushroom

Lot of very grumpy people in this thread! 🙂

Easy to trigger SS in central London with only a little bit of planning, managed 4 today without going out of our way. With the reduced total uses on each card it should be easy enough to max of out our 8 cards.

      • Crafty says:

Had a nice dinner last night that we’d planned to do anyway, and split it over 2 cards for a nice £10 rebate. Works for me. Definitely not going to mess around making lists and looking out for places this time.

  • Genghis says:

Once cards cancelled offers don’t get reversed.

    – CURVE CARD QUESTION –
I have just joined both Curve (basic) and IHG awards credit card, with the view to link the IHG to the Curve card, HOWEVER, when linking the IHG card I receive the following message… You can’t add this card to Curve…

Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, is there a workaround? Help me out team 😉

    • Yorkie Aid says:

Have you used the IHG card natively already? If not try that first.

    • the_real_a says:

If there is a 10-20 second delay between hitting submit in curve and the error message – curve is making a small transaction with your IHG card (say 0.89p) to verify the details. If curve is unable to approve the transaction you get the error message. Double check you have entered the correct details into curve, and that you have activated your IHG card (usually you need to do a chip and pin before making an online transaction although people say thats not necessary with Creation). Otherwise contact creation and ask why the transaction was not authorised – i recommend going to the fraud team because the regular customer service squad are about as useful as a bag of sand and i believe are no able to see non-authorised transactions on their version of the system.

    • Oz_Traveller says:

Ahh I haven’t. I will give that a go and see if that works – thank you!

  • Dr C says:

Have BA been cancelling many flights to Greece as had booked last year for next week but rather not have to pay a cancelation charge (can’t move dates again for free) or take a voucher

  • Jim says:

Just got the HK WE – when will the annual fee kick in?

    • Genghis says:

First statement. I remember getting my first statement a few days after receiving the card.

  • Kevin says:

Got several replies yesterday about upgrade BA free card to BAPP online will be the faster way rather than calling. May I know how to do it online, or just apply new BAPP. TIA
