We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

What’s the situation with Lloyd’s voucher bookings nowadays? I am due to use my last one to go to Nice at the end of August but possible Amber list requirements plus unvaccinated teenager supposed to be coming with me is making it look unlikely now. It was booked at the end of last year so I’m going to struggle to get BA to agree to move it. A straight refund would forfeit the voucher, I presume (I think it expired last October!)

    • Yorkieflyer says:

Ours were extended to 31/10/21 on request, this seemed to be standard when requested before previous expiry of 31/03/21

      • Anna says:

I’m pretty sure mine expired October last year and it’s now tied up in a flight so I think it’s unlikely they’d extend it if I couldn’t travel?

        • meta says:

They would. Mine expired in 2019. Still have 2 to use till end of October. Will they be extended again? They will have to unless travel picks up.

          • Anna says:

Thanks – So presumably I’d need to speak to avios.com about it? I keep forgetting about them since the Lloyds cards became of little use any more!

          • BJ says:

Lucky people, would love to have a Lloyds voucher still. I was never one of the lucky ones to get more than I earned, nor did I ever benefit from compensation for their notorious CS or IT failings sadly 🙂

          • meta says:

@BJ I never benefited from CS failures, but did get that extra one which was deposited by mistake and that one is still available. I honestly if we’ll ever be able to use all the vouchers now…

  • TicknBash says:

Anyone having issues adding Solihull to bendy app recently ?
Getting message stating…. ‘you can’t add this card to C….’

    Ohh ooo….

    • Paul Pogba says:

I had an issue adding my new Horizon card, it worked after I deleted the old one. Do you have more than one Creation card?

      • TicknBash says:

        No old existing card.
Even tried taking off another card and adding it back on – no problems there.

Wonder / worried if its Solihull specific.

        • Sean says:

I had a similar problem – but was resolved once I’d made a transaction on the card not thru curve first then was able to add it.

  • Emma says:

If I book reward flights where the taxes are £3 and then need to cancel is the service fee just the £3 or the £35pp stated on the BA page.

I’m sure I’d read somewhere that it the was the lower of £35pp or the taxes.

    • Nigel says:

I did this in October last year with flights to Italy. I only lost the £3

    • ChrisC says:

Don’t forget if you claim an FTV the £3 will be included as part of it.

Don’t give BA any extra money if you don’t have to!

  • Kevin says:

May I know how long it will takes to get upgrade a free BA to BAPP as my anniversary date is 11/06, got few hundred to go for the £10k target?

    • Anna says:

What’s the procedure now, is it over the phone only? If you get accepted immediately you might just get in before the 11th but with a weekend imminent it’s not guaranteed.

    • Ja says:

I upgraded mine on Tuesday pm. Card was with me Thursday. That was this week

      • Matt says:

You’ll probably (though not guaranteed!) find that spend on your existing card will count as BA PP spend once you’ve had the upgrade agreed, even before you get the new physical card.

        • Amy carpenter says:

True. Happened with me last month.

        • Ja says:

Correct. Within 5 mins of doing it (online) the app had changed to show the darker card with change in my target for voucher. Card no is same although the security no. Has changed and obviously the expiry date

    • BJ says:

Under 24h when my dad did it on Tuesday. In reality it was instant, tbe confirmation took a few hours. If you do it before 10am you lijely get card next day. However, online tuograde becomes effective before receiving card.

@Anna, it was done online and recognised him as existing card holder and diverted to an upgrade process as opposed to an application process.

    • Kevin says:

Thanks for all of your advice. Will try to get it done ASAP

  • TheInsiderFly says:

In case anyone has also tried this but with more success than me…Re the offer on BAPP for The Ned (spend £400, get £100 back). The offer T&Cs say Room Spend only and my spend was in the members bar/restaurant area but I didn’t think they would be able to tell the difference. Sure enough I didn’t get the email saying I’d triggered the offer so I spoke to them on Chat and they said the spend all looks fine but their system was showing it as ineligible. It’s gone back to their back-office team with 7-10 day response time, so doesn’t look like I’ll win this one sadly. We play again.

    • KBuffett says:

Did you ask the bar/restaurant to bill your room? Or were you not staying at all?

      • TheInsiderFly says:

        I wasn’t staying sadly.

        • Lady London says:

Some places might open a room type folio if you asked them nicely once there and put a credit card behind it. Would have to be hotel’s owned restaurant (in other words not just hosting it) most likely if they would even consider it, or at least set up so all restaurant payments went through the hotel tills.

At least one restaurant in London was working like this late last year even though when questioned directly by HfP diners the restaurant and hotel said it wasn’t.

          • KBuffett says:

This is the way to do it. I have done this at Corinthia London.

Strange update from fcdo regarding Maldives
    Update from GOV.UK for:

    Maldives travel advice
    Maldives travel advice
    Change made:
From 8 June, direct flights can arrive in England from the Maldives, but they must arrive at dedicated terminals at Heathrow and Birmingham airports. Different requirements may apply for arrivals into Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. (‘International Travel’) (‘Returning to the UK’)

    • Craig says:

Birmingham and Heathrow have been designated as the Red list arrival airports for England.

    • Sam G says:

From 8 June, direct flights can arrive in England from the UAE, but they must arrive at dedicated terminals at Heathrow and Birmingham airports. Different requirements may apply for arrivals into Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. (‘Returning to the UK’)

From 8 June, direct flights can arrive in England from Qatar but they must arrive at dedicated terminals at Heathrow and Birmingham airports. Different requirements may apply for arrivals into Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. (‘International Travel’) (‘Returning to the UK’)

Seems like they’ve finally seen sense and are allowing direct flights in to T3 rather than dispersing them via amber flights into T2/5

      • Anna says:

Yes, this was announced a few days ago.

        • Mart says:

Who is going to go Maldives with it being red 🤔
Unless it’s going amber in 3 weeks?

          • Sam G says:

Perhaps someone has been there claiming back EU 261 £250 a day from BA all this time waiting for a rebooking ? 🙂

UAE/Qatar/Turkey etc arrivals will be useful though for some – if you’re coming back from a red list country you’ve got to quarantine either way, this makes it easier to get back on a direct flight or more options for indirect

if EU is widely open for vaccinated travelers without quarantine soon this is going to allow you to spend time in a green list country (if any more are added!) instead of hotel quarantine or at least come back here as amber instead of red

  • N says:

    FTV – If I have a cash only FTV (no avios or 2-4-1s) from a flight only booking for Person 1 and Person 2, would I be able to use it in the following scenarios;

    1 – on a BA Holidays booking for P1 and P2
    2 – on a flight only booking for P3 and P4
    3 – on a BA Holidays booking for P3 and P4

Sorry if this is a simple one!

    • Matt says:

Definitely yes for 1. No experience of the other 2.
Is this a FTV or an e-voucher – that might make a difference

      • N says:

FTV/evoucher doesn’t exist yet – just exploring options on an existing booking

Go for a tour of Denbies wine estate or just go for lunch. I think its best to make a reservation rather than just turn up.
