We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Hi all. Does anyone have any experience of BA’s willingness to swap 241 vouchers on an existing booking? Due to numerous cancelled bookings over the last 12 months I’ve ended up with a returned voucher expected to expire in Jan but a booking for Nov on a voucher due to expire in June. I’d really like to swap the short-life voucher onto the Nov booking. Is it a cancel and rebook (and therefore £70) job or will the call centre do it for free?

    • Genghis says:

Not possible to do a direct swap.
As you say you could pay £70 to cancel, hope the flights go back into reward inventory and rebook.
Or get a FTV on that flight for free, hope the flights go back into reward inventory and rebook, but then you still end up in the same place with the 241 (irrespective of which one) valid until April 23.
      I’d probably just leave it.

      • TokyoFan says:

        Hmm that’s helpful Genghis.
I wonder if I got a FTV I could use *that* to book for my planned May trip (California), and then rebook Nov trip (which isn’t looking too good anyway at the mo – Tokyo). Hopefully that wouldn’t result in a loss.
If you book a redemption with a FTV presumably canx arrangements are the same as a normal booking?

    • TGLoyalty says:

They Might do it for free if the flights come back as the exact same cost (Avios and cash)

    • Toby says:

I managed to get them to swap one shortly after booking when I’d accidentally used the wrong one. It was remarkably easy via the blue exec line. I do wonder if the agent was meant to have done it!

    • Reeferman says:

They’ve certainly swapped for me (on the phone) when I was faced with this situation earlier in the year

  • Richie says:

I notice Finnair fly to Eilat in winter, would that be a few TPs in J?

  • dragonfly says:

Could you please recommend a reliable car service to take us from Canary Wharf to LHR T5 for very early morning flight? We (2 pax) will have 3 large suitcases, 2 golf bags, 2 carryon bags, computer bag and backpack. Thanks.

    • Rob says:

An Addison Lee SPV or UberXL should do the job.

      • dragonfly says:

Thanks Rob 👍 Have noted and will contact them.

    • Aslan says:

Could also try Blacklane or Wheely, although neither will be that cheap….

    • iSub says:

If you want to use a local Canary Wharf business, I’d highly recommend Carrot Cars – they have an office here, an excellent app with car tracking like Uber, decent cars (E-Classes as standard) and the ability to select cars by size etc. Service is always great – more Addy Lee or Blacklane level than Uber – opening the door, taking your luggage etc. I’ve probably used them 60 or 70 times from the Wharf to LHR and LGW without issue – often at 5pm. About £49 to £55 pre-Covid

  • Andrew says:

Referred someone for the basic BA Amex, they were approved, received the card, I got the referral bonus credited. They now want to cancel the card as the proposition is much poorer. Will I lose the referral bonus?

  • BJ says:

Pfizer has been approved for 12-15yo. On news outlets.

    • Anna says:

Great news but I wonder how long it will take to implement? 16 and 17 year olds can’t even get it at the moment, despite the majority of new covid cases being in teenagers.

      • WaynedP says:

Yes, and 5+ months after it was approved for 16 & 17 year olds.

So I wouldn’t hold my breath for under 16s getting jabbed anytime soon.

Lunchtime news also mentioned ethical issues around vaccinating low risk teenagers while so many adults in the developing world remain unvaccinated.

        • Binnie says:

As I see it, there are no ethical issues about vaccinating our own 12-15 YOs instead of giving the vaccine to some poor country where it would save more lives in elderly/ vulnerable folk.

Charity begins at home and stopping our own UK teenagers from spreading coronavirus to their gran etc or some unvaccinated stranger is worth the jab.

Don’t forget 90% immunity (eg old person who got 2 jabs) still means there’s a 10% chance they could get it, and in a frail old person that could mean premature death.

    • Harry T says:

Probably because it’s become apparent that Delta driven outbreaks are allegedly common in schools. That and the fact that the US and EU have approved already.

      • meta says:

And before it was “We now know that virus does not spread is schools…”

    • Tracey says:

Consent issues are going to be a nightmare! (Said as someone who works in a vaccine centre).

  • Anna says:

Also just been reported that BA is putting on extra flight from Portugal to the UK to get people home before Portugal goes on the amber list, in case anyone needs to book!

    • Anna says:

*Flights – it won’t just be one!

      • Sam G says:

Another LCY been added too (3 now on Monday) – Easyjet are adding 1000 seats heard on the radio as well

    • Richie says:

BA0511 on Monday appears to be a B777

      • Sam G says:

Yes. LGW config so row 1-4 CW and nearly full already. WT+ also being used as CE

    • HBommie says:

Hi Anna, I was due to fly out on Monday, hey ho. Now scrambling to find something UK based next week.
That will take me all weekend to plan something sensible.

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

Plymouth? Premier Inn Derry’s Cross was an excellent deal. Brand new hotel for £50 per night

  • Anna says:

And France will allow vaccinated Brits in for holidays from June 9th – that ban didn’t last long!!

    • Harry T says:

      Where are you seeing this?

    • ChrisC says:

Can the Dutch please do the same??

      • meta says:

Most EU countries will allow entry to vaccinated Brits from 1 July anyway. Some have chosen to do it earlier. EU digital passports are ready. My parents got them the other day.

Quite interesting validity compared to UK (as it’s driven by science and not on the mood):
2 doses of any vaccine valid for 210 days after 14 days of receiving for Pfizer/Moderna, 21 days after for AZ
1 dose of Pfizer/Moderna valid for 42 days from 14 days after receiving
1 dose of AZ valid for 84 days, 21 days after receiving.

        • ChrisC says:

Will they accept the QR code from the NHS app or the printed pdf?

Anyway looks like I’m cancelling my June AMS trip which included a fabulous rate Emyr got for me at the De Witt

          *sobs*

          • meta says:

Yes QR from NHS accepted or PDF printout or letter, but remember it expires 21 June and given current situation I don’t think it will be renewed for anyone. I have a hunch this was the plan all along.

          • meta says:

Also since I am dual national, I can also convert my overseas certificate (UK) into EU one, just need to do it in person in my home country. I am hopefully sorting all this out in July when I go back.

          • Binnie says:

Meta do you really think the UK vaccine passport expires on 21 June and won’t roll over? I think 99.9% of people disagree with you.

        • TGLoyalty says:

Technically the EU digital health passport is only valid for EU citizens and not 3rd countries (yet).

Individual countries would decide what they do and don’t want to accept from non EU states.

          • meta says:

Yes, but I am dual national so I am also EU citizen so entitled to EU digitial health passport because my home country will issue me with one based on UK vaccination. The certificate will show that I have completed vaccination overseas.

        • Tracey says:

Interesting, those poor Pfizer people stuck while waiting for their second dose!

          • meta says:

Or not. It’s 4 weeks wait by default in some EU countries for Pfizer and Moderna. AZ you can get after 8 weeks by default.

  • Andrew says:

Virgin Money Credit Card – FundBack

Had my first money back from Virgin the other day. You can choose to have it credited to your Credit Card or Faster Payment to your normal Current Account. I chose the latter.

It credits with the narrative of “Sports Loyalty Car”. Not impressed, it looks like a credit from a gambling site.

    • 747_Brat says:

Is this similar to LBG group offers or something else?

    • Travel Strong says:

Oh yes, I had that too! Yes, this is from the c@shback offers similar to other schemes.
Under more detailed information it does say VM C@shback, but the headline stayed at Sports Loyalty Car!
