We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Like everyone else, I had an easyjet flight cancelled in last year. The flight was scheduled to operate on 26 June 2020. On the 11 June 2020 I received an email informing me it was cancelled. Within that email it states “You have 12 months from the date of this email to request a refund.” In terms of rebooking it doesn’t state any deadline to rebook. I have a new date of travel in mind but I am unable to confirm the new plan until after the 11 June. This would take me beyond the 12 months – but as I say there’s no information about the deadline to rebook. Does anyone have any knowledge about the rebooking aspect in practice ? Would I be able to contact them at the end of this month to rebook or will they say it’s not possible due to it being over 12 months since the email was sent to me ?

    • Harry T says:

You have a legal right to be rerouted – they may refuse but that doesn’t change their obligations. It’s worth looking online because you can usually change cancelled EasyJet bookings yourself.

      • bill says:

I dont want to be re-routed. I can manage the disruption online myself, so indeed I would do that instead of calling. But the question is, in summary, on 29 June 2021 can I move a flight that was scheduled 26 June 2020 (about which I was notified of cancellation on 11 June 2020) ?

        • Harry T says:

Rerouting includes being rebooked on another date, as far as I’m aware. You would have a legal right to be reported even over a year from the original travel date – the issue will be whether EasyJet push back. You are well within your rights to insist though.

    • Neil Spellings says:

Speaking of EasyJet – I have a voucher from two cancelled flights last year. I asked for a refund but was told because I’d accepted a voucher at the time, they would no longer refund me. Is there a deadline where they will refund if I’ve still not used the voucher, or will I just lose it?

    • Lady London says:

Easyjet was refusing to rebook cancelled flights after only very few months after the flight date they’d cancelled. They claimed their system makes the booking disappear after this kind of time.

I logged a number of conversations until later in 2020 when they still refused. I have a feeling I may see Easyjet in hell or in court on this some time.

In the end I just gave up and will pick it up again when I have time. There was nothing I could do about the reroutings on a number of flights because it makes sense to reroute earlier cancelled ones first but they wouldn’t let me as early as 3-5 months after the flight they cancelled.

I had logged a call to them on each saying I would be rerouting the flight as soon as I had new travel dates but of course they cancelled so many flights this was possible since after their earlier refusals.

I find this strange behaviour from Easyjet and it’s disappointing we may eventually see each other somewhere serious as I would really just like them to honor the law they are supposed to.

Has anyone paid MBNA with bendy backed by MBNA?

    • Rob says:

Try it and see how fast you lose both cards.

    • DT says:

People who think this is acceptable are why these MS opportunities are fleeting, don’t take the piss and just enjoy what you can reasonably get

      • Howard says:

Thanks, so that’s a no. For the record I’ve never actually done something like this, only used curve for normal transactions.

  • PaulC says:

Has anyone struggled lately with the Hilton website? Im using Google Chrome but it struggles sometimes to search hotels when selecting flexible dates and also I cant seem to active the current double or triple points on stays between 3rd May and 6th September offer.

    • DT says:

It seems to be very slow at the moment, just booked a hotel this afternoon and it took a good 4-5 minutes to load the rooms and rates. This was on the app, so it might be a Hilton server issue.

  • MadeUpName says:

Are quarantine rules the same in Wales as England? So if I flew back to Cardiff rom Portugal before Tuesday would I need to quarantine? Or is the Wales Green the same as England (up until Tuesday)?

    • meta says:

The new list starts from Tuesday and applies to England only, but that may change.

    • gillydee says:

Wales is the same as England. Except BoJo wears marginally better fitted suits than our FM.

      • RussellH says:

Another black mark against BJ then.
**Never** trust someone wearing a suit. The fancier the suit, the less trustworthy they are. They are trying to make you think they are respectable – but probably they are not.

        • Lord Doncaster says:

On the contrary, a fine well-fitting suit will get you far. Just don’t go for one ten sizes too small like ITVs political correspondent…

          • James says:

Its called fashion. And he looks bloody good in it.

          • James says:

I take it back to some extent. I’m thinking Joe Pike, he’s with Sky now.

          • Lord Doncaster says:

I can appreciate a good slim fit suit…but skinny fit suits just look deranged. The guy I’m talking about has a name that sounds similar to Saul Hand…

          • RussellH says:

Quite possibly true – there will always some people taken in because they trust someone who wears a suit!

    • Tracey says:

No test to release in Wales, so if you come back from an Amber country you are required to isolate for 10 days.

  • Amy carpenter says:

Help me make a decision as I’m tight as well as indecisive. Plus fairly new to this world and trying to learn.
Recently upgraded my free BA back up to a BAPP and coughed up £195. Was going to refer BF for the free BA one for the referral bonus and the bonus he’d get for taking it. However, Amex just told me he’d not get the welcome bonus on the free one as he already owns the platinum. We would both get a bonus if he took the BAPP instead. He’d get 26000 and I’d get 15000 (I think, as current special offer on my gold card). Is the combined 41000 worth it for the £195 fee you reckon? It’ll be me paying it again not him as he’s being persuaded heavily by me and already pays huge amount for platinum. 😩

    • Harry T says:

I reckon it’s worth it. Don’t forget you can cancel one of the BAPP cards when you both have one, and receive a pro rate refund of the card fee too.

  • Marco says:

Looking to rent a car for the first time for Inverness…is there a particular card that is best to book it in terms of pricing / insurance? Was under the impression some cards have some sort of car rental insurance. I only have HSBC WEMC and Amex Gold and both does not seem to include any of that.

    • Rob says:

Amex Plat is the only one that makes a big difference, due to the inclusive insurance and (with Hertz) the 4-hour grace period. There is some deal with Amex Gold, can’t remember what but it isn’t amazing.

  • Lula says:

    https://www.ihg.com/content/us/en/deals/member-offers/enrollandstay

Seen this? Only for new members. Annoying in some ways, given how badly they’ve treated some existing long standing members!

    • Andrew says:

That’s a very good offer for those who would qualify.

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

Wow, thats a good offer. Might be time for the SO to have a IHG account…

  • Alex says:

Any chance the black IHG card is coming back?

    • Andrew says:

      No

    • Memesweeper says:

I have no inside info but I very much doubt it. All the very good non-Amexes are disappearing… Virgin and HSBC being the notable exceptions.
