The HfP chat thread – Thursday 3rd June

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Email just received from Amex regarding the BA PP changes:
“ 4. Introduction of an annual Cardmembership fee of £250, which will be the standard Cardmembership fee for the British Airways American Express® Premium Plus Card, and the removal of the clause that allows you to hold the Card for free if you hold an Amex Companion Card. This is to ensure we can continue to offer the existing range of rewards and benefits linked to your Card.”

Bye bye £0 grandfathered card fee 😡

    • Mycity says:

Just about to post this, good while it lasted.

    • Yorkieflyer says:

And I should think so as we have been subsiding the rather smug folk who’ve kept saying they’ve been paying nowt

    • Andrew says:

Yep the party is finally over for us – 10+ years of getting the BAPP free ends here. So I’ll be downgrading to blue once I get to my anniversary in February. I’m assuming that the anniversary date is the voucher achievement date – never having paid an annual fee I don’t know when the fee is due otherwise.

      • A says:

No… the voucher date is when you triggered it by reaching the spend threshold, not your anniversary date.
If you check your statement it will say something like ‘spend £xxx by *date* to earn your companion voucher’ and that date is your end of year anniversary.
Customer service can also tell you.

    • Harry T says:

I’m surprised they kept this going for so long – seemed absurdly generous and not very sensible. Surely people who happily pay for a Platinum card can afford the BAPP fee too?

      • Andrew says:

Well afford and want are two different things – I can afford to spend £250 but as I already give Amex £575 a year in annual fees I don’t really fancy paying any more than that. I never bothered with chasing the companion voucher anyway so blue will be fine for me I think.

        • TGLoyalty says:

Well get rid of the ba card altogether and get the sign up bonus in two years then.

  • Paul says:

Any update re. DragonPass? I have no idea how to chase them up for a refund for 5 passes they’ve cancelled (having previously informed they would be extended)

  • M says:

I am thinking about applying for a BAPP card, are there still enhanced sign up bonuses for referrals out there?

  • Kevin D says:

Hi guys. EI are running an A330 DUB-LHR on Monday evenings. Its only allowing seat selection in economy, which is fine for an hours flight, but I’m just curious who gets to sit up front! They have a nice wee business class cabin on their A330s. Anyone have any info?

    • Blair says:

Aerspace fares book into the front cabin.

      • Blair says:

It’s actually most days; A330s and A321neo plying the LHR route 3 times a day.
