Fly to Hawaii, business class, earning Avios and 640 tier points for £970 return

Some very, very low business class fares to Hawaii – and indeed the United States West Coast – have appeared today from Paris.

This is a very quick article so you will have to do a bit of digging yourself if you want to take advantage (I am on holiday, in theory), but here is an example from Paris to Honolulu for January 2022.

EDIT: As at 10.30pm, the deal appears to be almost dead, at least to Hawaii. It seems that it will work if you can get ba.com to show a routing via Helsinki, eg Paris – Helsinki – USA.

Hawaii

Here is an example from ba.com, where you can book this deal even if it doesn’t have a British Airways flight anywhere:

This is €1,131, so £970. Can’t say fairer than that ….

In terms of tier points, it would earn:

  • CDG-LHR – 40 tier points
  • LHR-LAX – 140 tier points
  • HNL-LAX – 140 tier points
  • LAX-SEA – 140 tier points
  • SEA-LHR – 140 tier points
  • LHR-CDG – 40 tier points

That’s a total of 640 tier points for £970, plus a holiday in Hawaii.

The ‘dream deal’ would be finding a way to book it as Paris – London – New York – West Coast – Hawaii. This would earn 920 tier points because you would have three business class flights of 2,000+ miles in each direction.

Take a look at this Flyertalk thread for more details. It implies that it is worth checking Amsterdam and Madrid as well as starting points.

Check carefully that ALL flights book into Business Class.

Have a play around and see what you can find …..

Grr, why couldnt there have been return flights availability the first week of may!

    • Louise K says:

I dithered now there is only Y on the HNL / LAX sector.

  • Mart says:

What is best way to pay if it’s in eur?

    • Rob says:

If you’re booking on ba.com, you might as well you any BAPP Amex as it is 3 Avios per £1 spent – otherwise use any 0% card you have. If neither of those apply, Amex Gold is double points when you book a flight on an airline website (not Expedia etc).

Booked for next April, thank you HFP!!

“You cannot enter or transit the USA if you have been in the UK, Ireland, Schengen zone, Iran, Brazil, China, or South Africa within the previous 14 days”

How feasible is it for UK residents be able to fly these tickets…?

  • Colin MacKinnon says:

Now, if I can sort out a route home via Denver, I could just miss my connection there to Europe …. and use the new Amex 241 for a one way to London/Scotland later!

  • Brett G says:

Has anyone seen any dates for October-early December?

  • FFoxSake says:

Looks like BA just sacked the intern and pulled their routings…
    e.g.
CDG-LHR-LAX-HNL//HNL-SEA-LHR-CDG just jumped from 1131 euros pp to 7746 euros across all dates
Well done to those who jumped in with both feet earlier.

    • Louise K says:

I just got in before it was pulled. Managed to get all my segments in J. Delighted.

So, is there a decent in-airport hotel at CDG T2A?

      • Nick Burch says:

There’s a bunch of decent hotels a short ride away on the VAL people mover, by the metro and bus station. IIRC only one hotel in T2 (Sheraton) and it’s pretty pricey, so just plan on 5 minutes on the shuttle to the others!

  • DT says:

Never been to Hawaii, can anyone recommend a hotel in Honolulu? Hilton, Marriot and IHG top tier status. Very points rich for HH and IHG so considering a redemption though it looks like IHG only has a HIX

    • Louise K says:

Embassy Suites Waikiki – spacious, clean, well located. Unfortunately they now charge a resort fee but you do get an evening drink and a cooked breakfast.

Hilton Hawaiian Village is good too, can be over run with kids, rooms are very hit and miss. Steep resort fee and no special treatment unless you are Diamond.

    • Louise K says:

Royal Hawaiian if flush with Bonvoy points

      • DT says:

        Thanks for the insight Louise!

      • Alan says:

Even if not staying there (and FHR can be a good option), the Mai Tai bar they have is excellent 🙂

    • SimonP says:

Stayed at the Moana Surfrider a few years back – right on the beach and the main strip of Waikiki
