The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 2nd June

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

What the easiest way to accrue 150 tesco clubcard points (other than shop for groceries or fuel)? Will purchasing a gift card work?

  • Alekun says:

Has anybody in their travels in morrisons remember seeing Morrisons selling IKEA giftcards?
Looking to buy a new wardrobe and wont be going to my local morrisons until Saturday. bought a load of morrison’s gift card when the 10% was ongoing.

    • 747_Brat says:

Personally, I have never seen Ikea gift cards in the 3 Morrisons I have visited. But YMMV.

      • Blenz101 says:

Same. Gift cards tend to be offered where the store has a high margin.

IKEAs shtick is that every cost is engineered out and you are buying at the best price direct.

        • Rui N. says:

Ikea offers gift cards through employers’ perks at least, so they have enough margin for that at least.

Nectar Connect – Anyone have more news on this and what it actually is ? Appeared on the app but does not really say what it entails.

  • bill says:

Guardian political correspondent tweets: I’m told ministers will tomorrow discuss whether to put Portugal back on the amber list Grimacing face

    No denials from the government.

    @breeallegretti

    • Harry T says:

Maybe they should put Bolton on the red list, as it’s got about eight times the infection rate of Portugal 😂

      • meta says:

A journalist who writes an article and doesn’t check that Maldives and Seychelles are already on the red list… UK media have long time ago lost any credibility on political reporting…

      • Lord Doncaster says:

        I concur. It’s a dump anyway.

    • TGLoyalty says:

There was supposed to be a watch list so that there were no surprises …

  • PaulC says:

It’s been along time since I booked or stayed in any hotel. I just wanted to check there is no harm in making two separate bookings at the same hotel for the same person with Hilton? It works out cheaper booking 2x 2nights making 4 nights in a row. Obviously need to check out and check back in on the change over day but in reality usually when you speak to reception and let them know you end up staying in the same room and no physical need to check out and in again.

    • Memesweeper says:

I do this all the time (just for better flexibility). Never had an issue at any establishment.

    • planeconcorde says:

I haven’t had a problem doing this with Hilton.

    • Lord Doncaster says:

      Perfectly fine 😁

      • AnotherUser says:

I’ve had minor annoyances (keycard needing resetting ( but nothing worse than that)

        • Algor says:

Every decent Hilton will encode keys manually for the whole stay regardless how many reservations are booked for your stay.

  • Anuj says:

Does anyone have a PFP Energy referral link? I appreciate it’s a bit late now so will post this again tomorrow just incase.

    • Anuj says:

Scrap that apparently their referral link has higher prices.

      • lev441 says:

        https://refer.pfpenergy.co.uk/benjyl-7

It shouldn’t lead to a higher tariff – I checked for my dad who’s Avro contract was coming to an end… and the cheap variable tariff was exactly the same with/without a referral…

        Hope that helps!
