Get 2,000 Virgin Points by activating Tesco Clubcard Auto-Convert

Tesco and Avios may have gone their separate ways but Virgin Atlantic remains a Tesco Clubcard partner.

Virgin Atlantic has launched another bonus if you agree to convert your future Clubcard points. You will receive 2,000 bonus Virgin Points if you switch your Tesco Clubcard account to auto-convert points to Virgin Flying Club.

To turn on auto-convert, you need to visit the Clubcard website here.

Sign in to your account and click on ‘Clubcard Account’. Select ‘Account Management’ and then ‘Voucher Schemes’. From this page you can select the “Virgin Points” box to enable auto-exchange.

Note that:

you must activate auto-convert by 18th June

you must keep auto-convert turned on until at least the next Tesco voucher date of 22nd July

you must have at least £1.50 of Clubcard vouchers available for conversion on 22nd July

you must not have received a bonus for turning on auto-convert to Virgin Flying Club in the past

your 2,000 Virgin Points will be awarded by 22nd August

I am usually a little sceptical about auto-converting your Clubcard points. You would miss out if a conversion bonus came along, or indeed a better Tesco Clubcard offer launched with another partner.

In general, it is better to keep your Clubcard vouchers in a drawer until you need them, or until a conversion bonus appears.

However …. the days of lucrative offers on Tesco Clubcard seem to be over. 2,000 Virgin Points is also a VERY good incentive – you’d usually need to spend £800 in Tesco to earn £8 of Clubcard vouchers to receive 2,000 points.

On this basis, assuming you’d only generate a few pounds of vouchers per quarter, you are likely to be better off by activating auto-convert for a while and seeing how it goes.

Anybody get the auto conversion bonus a few months back who has already had one in the past? I thought it was worth a punt but didn’t get it. Will try again as no other conversion interests me and will just convert to hilton points.

  Why convert to Hilton via Virgin? You are much better off going for Hotels.com in terms of value. Even if you have status with Hilton converting at 1:3 allows you to book a much better room and with breakfast if needed.

      I get the non refundable nature of your Tesco voucher but most bookings on H.com can be booked on a flexible basis and you can move your dates if needed.

        The rooms are normally changed by cancelling your booking and re-booking the dates. If that happens you only get your taxes back even though hotels.com say your booking is refundable.
        I had a suite at the savoy cancelled at Christmas and after a lot of help from the savoy, hotels.com eventually relented and allowed the booking to be changed to Christmas 2021.
        Tesco Hotels.com vouchers are not flexible in the slightest if you need to amend the dates……

    Personally didn’t find the Avios announcement particularly exciting or useful, as I don’t have kids and I’m not tied to travelling at certain peak times. I also don’t think the taxes and charges on BA long haul make 241 redemptions very valuable a lot of the time. I personally think it was a “game changer” for a particular demographic. Earning tier points on redemptions or allowing short haul redemptions from the regions without paying for the London connection would have been more useful.

      Agreed, that was the kind of game changing announcement I was expecting. A couple of extra Club seats on each flight didn’t seem particularly revolutionary, but like you say for those with kids needing several seats it was welcome news I’m sure. Just a bit over hyped which meant it was a bit underwhelming – the comments on Friday were about 50/50 between people who were thrilled and those who were ambivalent about the news.

      I don’t think we’ll ever see TP on redemptions, I’d love to be wrong. It’s one thing that drives cash bookings rather than just earn and burn. I like to retain status as I’ve found real value in it, nicer lounge, FW access, extra Avios availability when taking family on short haul. Great treatment from AA in US during weather disruption.
      I think 241 is the one occasion when LH redemptions do make sense. NYC for 120K Avios and £650 is OK, given flexibility, but I’d still go cash ex-EU. But 120K Avios and £1300 for two is much better value, and ex-EU gets less attractive as the number of people increases, as so does the whining.

Lodged a complaint, got an automated reply, but no follow up.

  No. Only news points. Vouchers already earned remain as vouchers and need to be converted manually.
  
  Depending on the value of the vouchers you have you could spend part of the value and get back the rest in change. The change is returned as points and would then convert back again at the end of this current quarter.
