The HfP chat thread – Friday 28th May

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Apologies if this has been covered before – I just had my first Virgin Red purchase confirmed. But sadly the 500 bonus points were not posted. What is the most efficient way to get the 500 Virgin Red points on first purchase?

    • PMG says:

I think for me it took about 7 days after the points posted to receive a code for the 500 points. If I remember correctly T&Cs say it could be up to 14 days after points posted that you receive the code?

    • Ed says:

Chase, chase and chase again. They are absolutely hopeless, the only way to get it is keep nagging.
      Ask me how I know….

      • Amy says:

Thanks PMG, but I am already past the 14 day period. I just realised it today that the transaction was confirmed but the actual date of points posting was 5th May.

@ED Thanks. But that’s the questions – what is the most efficient way to chase them – Twitter, email, call or messages?

    • Patrick says:

It`s a pitiful setup. You`ll just have to nag relentlessly if you care enough.

  • Optimus Prime says:

Need to cancel a BA Holiday and use the FTV to pay for another one. Can be done over the phone only, right?

    • Anna says:

You can get the FTV online but need to call to use it. Probably best leaving that bit till another day though!

      • Optimus Prime says:

Thanks, will do. Though I have till Sunday to pay off the other holiday 😛

  • Keely says:

Afternoon anybody able to confirm please how quickly bonus nectar points post for nectar Amex (I’m talking intro spend bonus ). Thanks

  • Chrisasaurus says:

Anyone recently withdrawn from nsandi? Withdrew a bit Wednesday evening and it shows as processed yesterday but no funds yet – I was used to it appearing the following morning?

    • Sam says:

Normally takes me a few days

      • Chrisasaurus says:

Ok, thanks both perhaps I just don’t check very often!

    • Pete M says:

Took about 4 working days for me last time…

    • garyE says:

Depends on the amount – under 50K it should appear by the end of the next day – over 50K it will appear at the end of the 3rd after request.

      • TGLoyalty says:

Yup always in the afternoon the day after you withdraw. Unless you withdraw after hours then the afternoon two working days later.

    • Sean says:

my last few didn’t appear until later in the afternoon of the day i expected them

      • Rob says:

Agree it is slower than claimed – always tells me ‘same day’ and then it appears the next day.

  • mark says:

Has anyone stayed in the Waldorf in London?
Ive stayed in the Conrad and enjoyed it and also Bankside but never the Waldorf, is it as bad as the reviews online make out?
Just fancy a change more than anything but don’t want to chance it being really bad.
    Thank you

    • YC says:

Its not a “Waldorf Astoria”. Its just Waldorf Hilton

    • DarrenS says:

We stayed a couple of years ago and it was OK. Lounge was fine, breakfast a bit of a scrum and no-way would I pay the then £25 asking price. Good location.
On balance, we decided that we would not go back.

      • Patrick says:

I have always found the place to be tired and the food low grade.

    • Laura says:

I’ve used the pool there a few times via Classpass, I think it’s FitnessFirst who run it, and I always thought it was a bit grotty for such a ‘posh’ hotel

    • Lyn says:

I stayed a couple of years ago for a single night using points. The location was around the corner from where I needed to be and it had a pool, so it was an easy decision. I afraid I can’t compare it to other nearby Hiltons.

They gave me a charming room and lounge access as Gold “since it was my first stay”. The lounge was adequate and useful to save time at breakfast after my early morning swim.

  • Stagger Lee says:

Has anyone got an Octopus Energy referral code I could use?

Bulb are jacking up their prices so time to move.

    Cheers

    • Carol says:

      share.octopus.energy/peach-crab-530
      Thanks 🙂

    • Travel Strong says:

Have a feeling there is a hfp referral link.
Happy to refer if not though.

  • Aston100 says:

If I cancel a BA Holidays booking and obtain an FTV, can that FTV be used to pay the charges & taxes on an avios (with companion voucher) booking for elsewhere?

    • Rob says:

Don’t think so. Avios FTV can’t be used for a cash flight and I think vice versa.

  • Anna says:

I did exactly this last year but they have possibly changed the terms since then. I just had to book the Avios flights as normal then reply to the email BA sent me about the FTV and they refunded me the relevant amount within a few days.
