News in brief:

Collect triple Avios via Nectar at Argos this weekend

To encourage some Bank Holiday shopping, Argos is offering triple Nectar points (= triple Avios) on all purchases until Tuesday 1st June.

The standard Nectar earn rate at Argos is 1 Nectar point per £1, which is equivalent to 0.625 Avios per £1 when converted.

Until Tuesday, you will earn 3 Nectar points per £1, so 1.875 Avios.

Full details are on this page of the Argos website. It also explains how to link your Nectar card to your Argos account. There don’t appear to be any categories of products which are excluded.

The offer is valid for in-store, click and collect and home delivery orders. You can find out more here.

Save £100 on a Virgin Holidays package to the Caribbean

Virgin Holidays has launched a new offer today which runs until Tuesday 1st June.

You can save £100 when you book a Caribbean holiday for travel up to 31st March 2022.

You must use promo code SAVE100 on the Virgin Holidays website here.

The definition of the Caribbean covers holidays in Barbados, Antigua, Cuba, Jamaica, Tobago, Grenada, St Vincent & The Grenadines.

The advance terms we were sent do not mention any minimum spend or minimum stay requirements but double check what has appeared on the Virgin Holidays website this morning. The offer can’t be combined with ‘part pay with Virgin Points‘.

British Airways flights from Southampton to start this weekend

After a series of delays due to ungoing uncertainty over Green and Amber List classifications and quarantine requirements, British Airways is starting its services from Southampton Airport this weekend.

Over the next few weeks, although this is clearly subject to substantial change, flights are due to start to Alicante, Berlin, Bergerac, Edinburgh, Faro, Florence, Ibiza, Limoges, Malaga, Mykonos, Nice and Palma.

Faro appears to be the only service on the first day, with a flight departing at 15.10.

Southampton was, as the picture above shows, a major Flybe base before the airline collapsed last year. The services will be a welcome respite for the airport which lost virtually all of its scheduled services.

The BA flights will use Embraer aircraft which serve London City Airport during the week but have nothing to do when City is closed over the weekend.

  • Kris says:

eBay also have promotion for nectar X 6 , yesterday I collect 161 points (£19) spend.

    • Andrew says:

      161 points is worth 80p not £19

      • Chris says:

I really wish people would adopt a if you’ve got nothing nice to say, say nothing approach

OP clearly stated he earned 161 nectar from a £19 spend, not what you’ve corrected him about

  • Felix Flyer says:

My local Argos sells gift cards. Surely these would be excluded?

    • AJA says:

You must realise by now it’s never absolutely everything, the usual exclusions apply, to whit:

Nectar points are not available in the Republic of Ireland, on delivery charges, purchases of Argos Gift Cards, e-Top ups, iTunes vouchers, gift cards, Argos Pet Insurance, Argos Monthly Care, in game currency, Argos clearance stores, Argos for business, Argos spares, mobile phone cards, vouchers or sims.  This offer does not include Argos ebay stores

Other than that fill yer boots…

      Oh and don’t call me Shirley…. 🙂

  • SteveD says:

I find myself idly wondering how effective Argos are at reclaiming points for returned goods…

    • J says:

I’ve got my Virgin Red points removed, as I put the transaction through the app. Nectar points remained so far.

    • Andy in Cheshire says:

I’ve given up shopping at Argos as they have never credited the Nectar points I was entitled to. And yes, they know my account number and I was logged in.

      • Rob says:

Weird. Always got mine, including for a purchase two weeks ago. Genuinely never heard of this as an issue.

  • Richie says:

The train from Southampton Airport Parkway to Clapham Junction is less than 75mins which is pretty good. Sounds much better than Stansted for me.

    • Rob says:

Yes, done this. About 2 mins walk from platform to terminal.

In fact I once hired a car from Southampton Airport for a south coast break rather than hire in Central London, since it saved all the bother of driving out of town.
