The HfP chat thread – Thursday 27th May

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Apologies if this has already been covered, but is the current BA Holidays x2 Tier Points deal a minimum spend of £2500PP when booking CW/CE?

    • James says:

Another question… If my BA Holidays deal is now cheaper than when I booked it, do I have any options to claw back the difference in cost? Thanks.

    • ChrisC says:

There is no minimum spend on the double TPs offer which is a different offer to the one emailed today for access to the First wing and lounge,

      • James says:

It doesn’t show the offer on the BA Holidays page when the price is under £2500PP, sneaky of them.

        • Chrisasaurus says:

It isn’t sneaky it’s bizarre – you’re going to get the double TPs anyway but because they don’t tell you it isn’t going to influence your buying decision – it’s just handing value back after the deal is struck

          • James says:

How can you decide what sways my decision making? I wanted confirmation that I would get the double tier points incase they tried it on after the holiday.

    • Rob says:

      No.

  • CG says:

I expect this has been covered many times before but I’m struggling to find it . I booked 2 first class flights to Dubai back in October in the 50% off avios offer using a 2-4-1 voucher. Flights were in May. They were cancelled rebooked for June. They were downgraded and have now just been cancelled. Spoke with BA and they said I can rebook first class flights but have to complete the flights by 5 October 2021 which is a year after I originally booked. Hotel is not honouring the original pricing when I booked if I change dates so will cost 50% more. BA say if I cancel I just get 68k avios and a voucher for the tax back (or cash).

I’m effectively losing what was a pretty good deal on 2 fronts.

Is what BA is saying correct? They said to speak to customer relations if I’m not happy.

    Thanks in advance

    • Asim says:

Yes. Except you may be able to extend beyond 12months. If they don’t, get it in writing and then go through MCOL process (see previous days’ threads for detail on process).

They will not be responsible for your hotel costs

      • CG says:

Thanks I’ve had success with the hotel and they’ve agreed to hold the rates which is good. With BA if I can get flights beyond 5 October 2021 that would be really helpful. I’ll have a look at previous threads on MCOL process

    June cancelations are rolling in!

I had a LHR-CHQ-HER-LHR-ARN-LHR booked and the LHR-ARN flight has been canceled. I’m traveling for a birthday and being in Stockholm is essential on the date I booked. If I call BA do we think that they’d rebook my trip back to front (go to Sweden then down to Crete) or is that not in the rebooking guidelines?

  • James says:

What is the Hertz code for Amex Platinum members?

  • Grant Blackshire says:

Just had notification that my Heathrow Rewards account was accessed by fraudsters.
    Anyone else?

  • David says:

So, our EDI-LHR-LAS flights on 14 June returning on 28 June booked during a BA Sale, have been cancelled. When I try to rebook the flights for dates in Oct/Nov, it comes up saying that there are no flights available, and yet I know that such flights are bookable. Am I doing something wrong or is my only option to get my money back?

    • Lady London says:

Call them. Before you do, find your seat in same cabin that’s selling for cash by searching as though you want to make a new booking for cash. When you’ve found it call and ask to “reroute” to that. As they cancelled your flight you have a right to that at no extra charge.

You could wait till 3-7 days after you were notified of the cancellation and try to change it again yourself. Otherwise you have to call. Be polite and don’t take no for an answer. Call in core of UK working days/hours to maximise your chances of less hassle.

  • Andrew says:

An exciting announcement coming from BA tomorrow morning at 9:30 according to TLFL – 50% Avios flights again?

    • Harry T says:

I hope so because I have no chance of moving my cancelled 50% off Japan flights to feasible new dates.

      • Andrew says:

I would imagine very few people actually got to take the flights they booked last time so maybe they are trying again.

        • Harry T says:

Where are you seeing this TLFL comment, btw?

          • Ed says:

If you go on tlfl look on the top story covering first wing access on ba holiday spend. Teaser there

    • Lady London says:

Two for 1 seats? They have to fill planes.

      • ChrisC says:

How about half price so us singletons can have a bargain as well!

    • ChrisC says:

      bank holiday weekend sale?

    • BJ says:

I just hope they didn’t listen to their customers this time…!

    • Red Flyer says:

Looks like a sale – biz seats down from £6k to £1.25k for my trip to EZE next year that I have been waiting for a deal to appear on before committing.

      • Rob says:

        No

        Gamechanger.

        • KBuffett says:

          Spill the beans Rob…..

        • BJ says:

Return to zone based award chart as opposed to sector by sector?

        • Mouse says:

Will hfp be posting a story at 9.30?

        • Aristeides says:

          On the spot covid test?

          • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

Yup – reckon it’ll be the Pelican rapid test they’re trialling – COVID-19 test result in 25 seconds – like Rob said, if it works accurately & governments accept it for entry it is a game changer… that’s quite a few ‘ifs’ there mind you

  • BJ says:

Sorry if I have missed this in the comments already but I’ve just noticed thst we can now spend Nectar points at Nectar Hotels.
