The HfP chat thread – Thursday 27th May

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Are there any Curve Metal promo codes around?

I already have Curve Black Legacy, is it possible to apply for the Metal Card in addition?

Also, is it possible to have the same underlying cards across more than one Curve card?

    • Sina says:

      No, No & No 👍🏼

    • Mr. AC says:

For that last one, according to the pitch deck from the crowdfunding round that ended yesterday, they’re planning to implement something called “Curve Cast” that will allow other Curve users charge your card (basically allowing you to have multiple supplementary cardholders in effect).

Rookie Nectar redemption question here, but is there a limit on how many can be used in one transaction….?

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

      How many what?

    • BSI1978 says:

      Sorry!.

      Nectar points, at Sainsbury’s!

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

Assuming you mean is there a limit on the number of nectar points that can be redeemed at once? I am not aware of any, I know someone that spent £200 on booze with his Necter points in December 20

    • AJA says:

Not sure whether it still applies but you used not to be able to redeem nectar in a store you haven’t earned NP in for the last year. Other than that apart from the £500 limit in Argos I believe there is no limit AFAIK.

    • BSI1978 says:

Thanks all; seems to be a £25 (5k Nectar points) limit at the self-checkout which is where I think my pal went wrong. Managed to stock up on some LP Rose at the main tills though without issue…..boom!

  • Stephen Reynolds says:

I am no longer receiving email comms from IHG – neither reservation confirmations or offers. Has this happened to anybody else – assuming it is something to do with the mailing software they use being blocked by my email host. Something similar happened to my emails from HP Instant Ink account a year ago and never could resolve that. Thanks.

    • Rob says:

Your email provider has decided to block them at source as spam so they don’t even make your inbox. Seems fo happen to about 1 HfP reader per week out of 15,000 on our list. No logic to it.

      • Stephen Reynolds says:

Yeh thanks – that is what I guessed. Email provider unwilling to engage so will move to alternative email account.

        • AJA says:

Before you do that have you checked that they are not in your spam or junk mail folder? Best done on a PC. If they are there just add add them to your safe senders list.

          • Stephen says:

I did check – not even getting as far as my spam folder. I did raise as an issue with IHG this morning and they were going to pass on to their technical department. No idea if it will get resolved.

May be the Microsoft group hotmail outlook live etc – they are getting really bad at this

  • Amy C says:

Pricing up a BA holiday for the extra tier points. Is there any way of finding out how many you’ll get for a booking as it doesn’t seem to show you on the booking pages? If I use the standard tier point calculator there are 3 different TP amounts depending on the code for economy so how do I know which will be used on a holiday booking? Is it always the lowest? ie 10 for Marrakesh. Thanks lots.

    • Stu N says:

If you click on the flight number on the “chose flights” screen it should show you more info including the booking class.

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

Once you have the ticket fare code, you can go on the flight calculator to see how many Avios and tier points you’ll get

      • Amy C says:

Thanks Stu, unfortunately that’s not happening for some reason.

  • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

Any recent experiences of the University Arms breakfast? Worth paying a £12pp supplement?

    • Harry T says:

Yeah, it’s pretty good. Last time I was there, it was included in my rate. £12 sounds good if it includes everything. If you’re Platinum or above, you’ll get it for free.

      • Harry T says:

I should say, I haven’t stayed there in 2021 but stayed twice in the second half of 2020.

  • Matt says:

Is the Marriott Amex 500 points offer supposed to be available to all? I’ve got it on mine, but not on my wife’s card. Tried asking CS, but no joy.

  • Benilyn says:

Thoughts on Indigo – Kensington & Indigo – Leicester Square? The reviews for the latter don’t seem the best on TA, and base room looks tinyyy.

    • Rob says:

Not been inside but feedback is as you say. Earls Court is a bit of ‘fried chicken and betting shops’ dumping ground but the hotel itself is ok based on what I’ve seen, although must be getting due for a refurb.

      • Aston100 says:

“Earls Court is a bit of ‘fried chicken and betting shops’ dumping ground”
        That is quite unfair.
The area around the Indigo has a number of eateries.
Perhaps not at a level acceptable to a snob, but likely suitable for the majority.

        • Rob says:

It’s a dump, by the standards of anyone who doesn’t consider Dixie Fried Chicken to be a suitable breakfast option.

          • Tariq says:

I would agree. More High Road than High Street.

Some good reviews of Indigo Kensington recently. Think it was 2019 when I stayed, good service, comfy and well furnished.

        • kitten says:

The place (street) even has that fried chicken smell.

    • Phil W says:

I stayed in the Kensington Indigo in Dec 2019. Good Spire recognition, I got a 3-4 level upgrade to a suite which a very comfy bed, great shower and nice sitting room. The bar was quite nice and they served a decent breakfast.

  • Karl says:

Anyone been to the new Hilton Garden Inn Snowdonia yet? I’m heading over there today and was wondering if any tips/advice?

    • James says:

Sleep in the bed provided and flush toilet after use? 😬

    • Memesweeper says:

No, but please report back, I’m going later this summer

    • Travel Strong says:

Another request for feedback after your trip!
