Two new Paris hotel redemptions: Canopy Trocadero (Hilton) and Kimpton St Honore (IHG)

If you can’t wait to get back to Paris as soon as restrictions allow, here are two interesting new hotel options which are bookable on points.
Canopy Trocadero
Most of you will be unfamiliar with Hilton’s Canopy brand, although it is coming to the wastelands of Aldgate in a few weeks.
When I visited Hilton’s US HQ a couple of years ago, I visited the prototype in Washington DC, which is in a lovely spot on the shore of the Potomac river.
What is Canopy by Hilton?
It is positioned, in my mind, at a wealthier younger audience – someone that likes the vibe of a Moxy, say, but can afford something better. Room rates are planned to exceed typical ‘upper upscale’ brands in the same market.
There is a ‘brand standard’ of making bikes available for guest use, as well as lockers so that luggage can be stored after check-out. A focus on local food and drink providers, served in a casual environment, is also guaranteed. Breakfast is free and can be delivered to your room if you wish. Filtered water is provided in all rooms. Welcome gifts are provided. You are likely to see splashes of orange, the brand colour, everywhere. The hotels are designed to fit into specific city neighbourhoods and are expected to become part of the local community.
A recent Canopy opening in Dubai was a conversion from another brand, so Hilton is clearly already diluting the formula somewhat, but I liked what I saw in Washington.
If a weekend break in Aldgate doesn’t do it for you – and you will have to wait until September for that – the 123-room Canopy Trocadero is open in Paris. Here is the website. It is 10 minutes from the Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Elysees and has a rooftop bar overlooking the Eiffel Tower.
As you can see from the two photos above, it looks impressive.
For points, it caps at 80,000 Hilton Honors points per night but may be less out of season. This is what I would have expected given the room rates of almost €300 in September and is in line with my Hilton Honors valuation of 0.33p per point.

A second Canopy is due to open in Bordeaux later this year.
Kimpton St Honore
In the IHG corner is Kimpton St Honore, above.
This is a new hotel, situated very close to InterContinental Le Grand and so ideal for the major department stores and walkable, downhill, from the Eurostar terminal.
To quote:
“Moments away from Opera, Kimpton St Honoré Paris brings creative flair to its 1917 Art Déco facade. Its 149 stylish guest rooms and suites are designed by Charles Zana, inspired by minimalist Art Nouveau aesthetics and a light-hearted sense of Parisian chic. Kimpton St Honoré Paris encourages encounters between travellers and habitués thanks to its healthy, California-inspired patio restaurant, a cutting-edge spa complete with interior swimming pool and, cerise sur le gâteau, the unrivalled 360-degree views of its rooftop bar & garden.”
Back in January, when we first wrote about this, you could pre-book Kimpton St Honore for just 40,000 IHG Rewards points per night. It now around 60,000 points per night for July / August, or €350-ish for cash. The hotel was originally asking €700 per night back in January so realism has clearly set in.
The Kimpton Paris St Honore website is here.
We will do our best to take a look at both of these hotels later in the year.
