The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 26th May

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Just completed the Diamond status challenge – booked a 10 night stay for 272.34 and received a £50 Hilton Amex credit.
App updated within 2 hours of checkout.

  • Laura says:

Just got a sponsored ad to say that 30-year-olds can now book their vaccine!

    • Liam says:

Matt Hancock said as much earlier today too, and a 30-year-old friend of mine confirmed that bookings are possible.

      • Freddy says:

I’ve been told that Matt Hancock is a liar so wouldn’t trust what he has to say

        • mr_jetlag says:

Dom is a liar too though…

The whole thing reminds me of my divorce!

          • Magic Mike says:

Funny how this time last year Dom was the devil incarnate, but now he’s putting the boot into Boris the meeja have forgotten all that…

    • Craig says:

Reminds me of my divorce too!!

  • Dan says:

Hi, Is there an Amex route at all for paying Vehicle/Road tax?

    • Sandra says:

      At a Post Office

      • Jason says:

I paid mine at the post office with Amex. The helpful cashier told me if I purchase a postage stamp at the same time the transaction will process / go through you just have to buy something other than the road tax in one single transaction. Presume this will apply at all branches……

    • Travel Strong says:

Never succeeded as post offices, tried 4 or 5 times over the years at different PO’s.

      • stevenhp1987 says:

Paid mine back in September at a post office just fine.

        • Sloth says:

Ditto – just stick it in the machine. Don’t ask

          • Ikaz says:

I tried paying for my car tax at a post office this year, I tried with Amex, curve and revolut. All of them failed with the chip and pin. They requested a debit card.

Has anyone managed to find any eligible flights outside of school holidays using the Teachers code that was offered by Qatar?

    • Aston100 says:

There aren’t even any during school holidays.

    • RogerC says:

I couldn’t find any online, but a phone call to them found flights in October half term – though one leg has since been cancelled.

  • B says:

Urgent help please kind people! I have an avios booking that I made last night but I now need to cancel under the BA 24 hours cooling off period. The UK line is closed and the USA line just says they’re busy and ends the call. Any ideas? I have a couple of hours to stay within the 24 hours

    • BJ says:

Can you not cancel it foot of the the page in manage my booking?

      • BJ says:

If not send them an email before 24h explaining that you wished to cancel but you couldn’t do so.

    • Matthew says:

      Call the US number

    • Matt says:

The 24 hour period had been extended to 48 hours when I phoned up last October (approx) because people were struggling to get through so much. I don’t know if that is still the case, but don’t give up at 24 hours.

  • Kevin D says:

I’m booking Belfast to Barcelona (again!) and I see BA allows you to book flights on BA website with the flight operated by Vueling, direct route, cheap prices too! Does anyone recommend booking a Veuling flight via BA website? What happens with Avios then? I previously have booked with Vueling and used my AerClub number.
    Thanks

  • Super Secret Stuff says:

Tenerife, tempting, very tempting. However the sensible part of me is saying no
