Let F1 driver Lando Norris drive your child to school – pay with Hilton Honors points

If the school run is getting boring, Hilton Honors has the answer.

One Hilton Honors member can have their child driven to school by Formula 1 driver Lando Norris. You don’t need to worry about your insurance, because Lando will bring his own McLaren supercar to make the trip.

The event is fixed for 6th July. Check the dates before you bid – my daughter’s school finishes on Friday 2nd July, although my son has a week left.

You need to live within 25 miles of Woking to bid. Most of London is within 25 miles of Woking as the crow flies, but the usual M4 / M25 route is over 30 miles – it isn’t clear how McLaren will decide if you are eligible.

The Virgin Atlantic cards are the only Visa or Mastercard products in the UK which can indirectly earn Hilton Honors points. You can apply here.

Woking? 60,000 points plus? This is going to be grabbed by someone in the Cobham-type ‘Stockbroker Belt’ practically next to Woking.

It’ll be a great ride to a nice school down those green country lanes…Holland Park Comprehensive isn’t going to get a look in. At most, someone who lives in Surrey Stockbroker Belt with a daughter at St.Paul’s Girls School nearish Rob.

You’ll need to weigh-up the pros & cons of booking a LHW hotel directly vs Emyr. In general, going via Emyr gets you additional benefits including the $100 F&B benefit. However, going directly via the Leaders Club gets you some of the same benefits, plus a 20% discount on the published rate and points (currently Emyr does not offer this). The points can rack up quickly on a longish stay especially with the double points promo. You’ll need about 7.5k points for a 1 night redemption at a 5-star hotel (with a discounted cash rate of £425).

  Emyr can book the LHW deal in the same way he can book Amex FHR packages.
  
  Why bother? You needn’t unless, for eg, you have special requests like connecting rooms.
  
  They are just specific rate codes that the hotels file and which Emyr can pull up. I think he can book you Amex FHR even if you don’t have a Plat card, in theory, as long as you have an Amex to pay with.

    I found he couldn’t pull up the Amex FHR rate at University Arms Cambridge and only the Marriott Stars rate instead which doesn’t come with the $100 F&B credit unless it has changed…
