The HfP chat thread – Tuesday 25th May

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anyone else having problems paying Solihull with Beardy this morning? Everything seemed to go through OK including OTP authorisation and payment authenticated but then I just end up with a purple screen saying please wait while we process your payment. I’ve never seen anything like it before. And I haven’t received the payment confirmation email. Tried again with Shanghai no problem.

  • King Julien says:

Got a double tier point offer when booking a BA Holiday. Book by 21 Sept 2020 and fly between June and Sept 2020.

    • DT says:

2021, though we do all forget 2020 has been and gone these days

  • Sundar says:

Anyone interested in Curve Crowdfunding this time round ? Price looks high

  • David D says:

Does anyone have the Sainbury’s offer on their cards? I can’t see it but got an email about it and a banner.. It’s the 3x points for June

    • KBuffett says:

Yes, I’ve had it for some weeks on Gold Charge Card

    • Ste Cox says:

I got it added through the chat – i had to send them a screenshot of the banner at the top of the page telling me about the offer

    • BuildBackBetter says:

I believe its one of the targeted offers. But no harm asking Amex if they can add it.

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

The one ending in a few weeks?

  • flyforfun says:

Is anyone here taking part in the Curve Card crowdfunding launch today? They hadn’t met the target when I logged in but know they are nearly 5 times over what they wanted.

I signed up to a few shares just for the hell of it and to dip my toes into crowd funding to see what the fuss was about. I know I may never see my cash again. If I loose the money, its no more than dinner at a posh restaurant. If I make money, I may be able to buy a meal at a posh restaurant! 😀

    • Craig says:

Bought my £90 pf BrewDog ‘shares’ in 2015, I’ve more than had my money back in discounts. If Curve had done something tangible rather than just an investor card I might have been interested.

      • the_real_a says:

There’s no special card this time around!

        • Rh says:

Yes. I saw that. £5k investment in 2019 got you a metal investor card and lifetime metal benefits. This round it only gets you a year upgrade to metal – no where near as good this time. I did invest in 2019, but won’t be this time.

I see it is at 595% if the target crowdfund a no by after 3 or so hours!

    • John says:

I “invested” £10 last time but I still don’t understand how to find out how much it is worth now or how I could cash out if I wanted to.

      • Rui N. says:

You can’t, not until Curve goes public, i.e., is listed on the stock market. (If that ever happens, of course.)

        • Sina says:

it’s so funny reading people’s comments! for followers of a loyalty website, no one seems to be very loyal! especially those who are getting so much value out of Curve and get panicked when they think Curve’s “game” is finished now!

I personally think if you invest in a company, you should do so in their people, but on top of that, Curve’s got a good marketing and product as well.

and in terms of how they make money, their core source of money would come from Curve Credit, which is coming this year!

I’ve invested last time (today as well) and apparently, my shares are valued 3x more!

  • Benilyn says:

Has anyone booked the Ritz-Carlton Maldives? It’s meant to open on the 1st of June. Given the red list I’m not sure how many Brits will be there

    Dragonpass Update
    ****************
    Hello,
    Apologies for the delayed response.

As you are fully aware the membership that had been provided to yourself through the Dufry promotion was for a duration of 12 months This promotion has now been terminated by Dufry, therefore your passes are no longer valid. DragonPass understand that this may feel unfair, so have issued a refund for all your unused visits and have also extended your membership as a gesture of good will. Offering this solution means that your membership has been extended until 31 st July 2022 allowing you access to all of the products that DragonPass offers, which is usually at a cost of $99USD (£68). You can also purchase lounge access for $27, which is usually $31 and is fantastic value.

Once again we apologise for the inconvenience and time taken to reach a solution.

    • Doommonger says:

Given you are unlikely to be able to travel anywhere meaningful until at least spring 2022 a pyrrhic victory unfortunately.

      Doomey.

    • J says:

Oh wow thanks for this, I hadn’t yet spotted this in the app. So they initially extended the date and then reversed it back to expiry? How did you contact them? I thought under the initial terms, refunding unused visits was meant to be automatic…

      • Dave says:

Refund of unused visits not automatic but was supposed to be available at any time. Dragon pass where not willing to refund when I contacted them. My credit card chargeback has been approved thankfully.

    • Washborne says:

I’ve just picked up the same email after a lengthy delay. Would have preferred to have kept the two $10 discount bookings but at least it’s money back.
Will have to see if the discounted visits can occur or whether there may be better lounge offers when flights genuinely start to open up again.

  • Phil G says:

Just had an email from BA offering double tier points on flights booked as part of BA holidays. Travel 9/6/21 to 30/9/21. Existing bookings count.

    • KBuffett says:

Any tips on how to easily strike Gold with this?

    • Andrew says:

840 tier points for a return flight in First is excellent. Just need to find somewhere I’d be able to fly!

    • AJA says:

Just seen this on FT. Haven’t received email yet. T&Cs posted on FT state that it doesn’t apply to bookings turned into a BAH booking by subsequently adding car or hotel. Also booking has to be for at least 5 days and car or hotel has to be for same duration as flight booking so no adding just one night or one day car hire.

      • meta says:

Ah then sadly I’ll pass as that’s not how I travel…

        • AJA says:

Also apparently has to be a minimum of two people on the booking so no good for singletons.

          • BJ says:

Always find this grating, I think they should amend equality legislation to prohibit such.

        • BJ says:

Most of the fun when out of loyalty once the schemes started getting wise to all our tricks. When something slips through these days it feels precious rather than the norm.

    • Mouse says:

Is this targetted or open to all?
