  So Curve’s crowdfunding is kicking off tomorrow morning at 9 apparently. Is anyone investing in them? Seems to me like they are burning money very fast…

    Yes, feels like a share in the Cannot Recommend A Purchase category. I have a Curve metal for paying HMRC and overseas use but I can’t see any other reason for having the card. Also, I can’t quite work out how they are burning their way through so much cash. The tech is still pretty flaky. I know one of their corporate investors quite well and they are hopeless at picking winners! Curve raised $95m in January, partly for US expansion…

      I spoke to him once. He’s a brilliant salesman / cheerleader. I just don’t see how they will ultimately make money or, if they do, make enough to get any decent return.

        I mean, people said the same exact thing about Facebook. Arguably it’s not difficult to see how they could theoretically make money – they’re literally making the thing you pay with, there’s a lot of opportunity here if you play your cards right. It all depends on the execution.
        That being said, I’m on the fence. Would’ve invested in a heart beat at the old valuation (and I did), now it seems that the risk-reward calculus is not so clear.

          I like Curve but I don’t think they can make a profit or break even for that matter unless for example they had some in store cash back deal with retailers that they pocketed and didn’t pass to the consumer

    I find Curve useful but except for HMRC not for anything essential, investing now is a waste of time they are hugely over valued and no real prospect of making money that I can see.

    Think I might have seen some so check the usual suspects although many reported codes rarely work these days IME. Also those other places. Currently amex offers on Raft and Beliani furniture if those are of any use to you. I’m currently looking for a walnut dining table but unfortunately not finding it with codes etc either.

    Anybody here ever used a company called cosywood? Seems to be my best option but prices are higher than I would like and I’m a bit reluctant to buy online without sight when prices are high.

      @BJ is buying secondhand an option? Often see good quality furniture on classified sites here for a fraction of the new price, and vintage ‘brown wood’ furniture can be very good value if you like that style.

      I’ve furnished a couple of rooms for £100s when buying new would have cost thousands…the furniture is used, but should still outlast me and probably another owner or two.

        There is quite a lot of quality pieces on ebay. May take a more serious look once we have exhausted our search of independents which is fun in itself and I would prefer to support an independent to a chain. I would settle for veneer to cut cost but there is not that many of those around than solid walnut. Most we can find are lighter tables whilst we want something solid and heavy that doesn’t shake.

    This is a bit of a late reply but my number one learning from buying appliances and furniture is check eBay. Especially with furniture, a lot of the returns from Made and Swoon end up on eBay for far less in almost new condition.

        Depending on the prices you’re looking at, might also be worth seeing what a local carpenter would charge to make to order or repair/update a vintage piece to your taste?
