We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Apologies if I missed this due to not visiting Hfp recently but my legacy “one off fee” Curve Black, which I must have had since HfP promoted it in 2016 was due to expire in a couple of weeks. Today the replacement card is the Blue version, the benefits being 1% at 3 retailers for 90 days. Whoopee-doo!!! Is there anyone who has managed to have the Black replaced with the Black rather than the downgrade to Blue without paying £10 a month?

    • Youllnever says:

That doesn’t sound right – you shouldn’t have moved plans just because your card expired.

    • Craig says:

My Curve card is blue, has been since it was replaced. However, my account under manage your plan is legacy black. I think I queried it at the time and was told that’s what the replacement card would look like but not to worry the plan stays the same.

      • Olly says:

@Youllnever, I was surprised to see the account downgraded without so much as a “by your leave”, just the card landing through the letterbox.
@Craig, I have just checked the plan via the app and it is shown as being Blue now, how long ago did your card
get changed? I’ve sent a message off to CS but from past experience might not hear back for a few days.

        • Craig says:

It was a while ago Olly, over a year, the card was compromised so they issued a new one which was blue but as I said account says Curve Black Legacy. Hope you get it sorted.

        • Youllnever says:

Please update us with what they say. Hopefully whatever issue that caused this is resolved before my card expires at the end of this year.

          • Olly says:

Thanks @Craig & @Youllnever, I will reply with the end result as and when they respond.

Any suggestions for the most convenient hotel to stay in at Heathrow at the moment? Flying back into T5 late and want to stop overnight before continuing journey.

Prices seem similar around £60 ish for standard accommodation. But I notice that some of the hotels that call themselves T5 hotels are actually quite far away… was thinking the Holiday Inn Express T4 as I could use the train link but not sure if T4 is open at the moment so wonder whether the link is running.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

    • Sam G says:

If you haven’t got loads of luggage then the London bus to T4 (490 or 482) is easier than the train – you can alight at the “Sheffield way” stop for the Hilton or the Premier Inn. However I believe only the Hilton is open at the moment. The Premier Inn T5 might be a better bet – the 423 bus goes there. These aren’t free currently – £1.50 ew pp with a contactless card

    • Rich says:

Premier Inn T5 is perfectly good and very close on the bus. Probably the most convenient to T5 at the moment.

You also have the Hilton and Aerotel at T2/3, but it’s a bit of a schlep even though the HEX is only a few minutes.

    • Anthony Edwards says:

If you’re continuing via London the next morning then get the tube to Hatton Cross and stay in one of the hotels there. I hate the Heathrow buses.

When transfering Marriott points between members who calls, the giver or the receiver. Thanks

    • Benilyn says:

      The Giver

    • Chrisasaurus says:

Lol, xcalcx though they’d thought up a loophole there!

Yes hello I’d like to transfer points from someone else’s accounts please – all of them. Account number 1, also account numbers 2, 3, 4…..

  • Pete M says:

I do despair… Who’d have thought you need to check with the country you’re travelling to whether you’re allowed in, eh? https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-57176693

    • Anna says:

Not this chap, or his daughter who did all the paperwork for him! He also managed to books flights, and apartment and do PCR tests but not a single alarm bell sounded at any stage. Apparently Boris or the Welsh government should have told them.

    Tesco Clubcard Pay Question:
    i) Has anyone tried using this card at a tesco petrol station ? – Does it earn the 1 point per £1 like other Tesco Bank Cards or the regular Clubcard points?
ii) I assume that as this is a straightforward Visa Debit its good to use at HMRC etc?

    https://www.tesco.com/zones/clubcardpay – Thanks

  • Alex Sm says:

    It’s official now

Heathrow to set up dedicated facility for red list passengers

    T3, then T4

    • Sam G says:

They should now allow direct flights from the ME transit hubs, SA etc. That will reduce the number of people currently transiting via Europe and mixing with amber (and potentially soon green) passengers

    • Andrew says:

So I guess that’s no VS Clubhouse for the foreseeable future then.

  • mutley says:

    A couple of questions

    1) I have a green IDC, can I get a supplementary card so Mrs Mutley can transfer her Business Plat MR balance to the supplementary IDC?

    2) Where can I find upgrade vouchers on my Virgin Atlantic credit card account?

    Thank you

    • Benilyn says:

      2) it should appear as a line item in your FC activity

    • Jonathan says:

The voucher can only be redeemed by calling flying club CS

    • Rob says:

      1. Probably not possible because the points from the supp go into your MR account, not one for her

      2. Your point statement will have a zero miles entry called ‘Reward voucher issued’ or similar

      • mutley says:

OK thanks for answers, nice problem to have as her balance is 120k from the recent Plat bonus, also well on the way to 29.9k from COT both via HFP articles 🙂
