The HfP chat thread – Saturday 15th May

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I agree legacy means we are on the old reward schemes for a numerous retailers, whereas selecting three was for new black customers. If they are asking you to do this then I would check you are definitely on the legacy scheme.

  • Roberto says:

Can u apply for virgin credit card limit increase via the app?
Cant seem to see it any where.
    Thanks

  • Sundar says:

Quick Q – Would a referral from Plat receive the referral bonus for an existing amex customer(spouse) for the BAPP ? Either not holding BAPP now/in the past.
Or are spousal referrals best avoided for existing amex customers ?

    • Anna says:

A lot of people on here mainly refer spouses/partners, no issues. Sign up bonuses depend on which cards they’ve held previously and when.

      • Sundar says:

Thanks Anna. Yep understand the rules of sign-up bonuses. Wasnt sure about the referral one.

  • YC says:

How do u find out what ur legacy selections are?

  • Anuj says:

With all these retention points I’m starting to wonder if it makes sense for me to keep my Amex cards and instead of waiting 24months just apply for the gold and then after a year ask for a retention bonus.

    • Aston100 says:

Well, I did the maths and even without retention offers, it works out better for me to continue churning multiple cards between Players 1 and 2.

Has anyone stayed at Indigo Bath on the 30k suites booked last year? It seems the suites are still not for sale and I’ve been moved to another room which the hotel insists isn’t a downgrade. When I go back to my confirmation email, it does actually say Premium King Vault rather than Suite but I am sure I booked suite (so I guess the description was of suite, or maybe room name in email is different to what was visible on website).

Just curious if anyone else found themselves in the same situation and how the stay turned out in the end? I’m minded to request free breakfast as a goodwill gesture.

    • Si says:

My booking (not until September) is for a ‘King Suite Vault’ (in my app)

Guessing yours was originally the same

    • Kai says:

What’s said in the confirmation email is what you booked. I booked Premium King Vault too as no suite was available for booking at that point.

      • Rupert says:

Have a stay in two weeks. They contacted me to say the vaults are not completed yet and will potentially be ready end of June but not confirmed. They moved me to a premium room and said they would give a free bottle of prosecco, free mini bar (am spire) and reduce breakfast to £10 ppn

        • S says:

That’s a good outcome. I’m staying in 2 weeks too (bank holiday weekend)!

          • s says:

Does your app show that you’re in Twin Superior? Weirdly, the hotel insists I’ve been allocated a premium room (even stated my room number) but that it is in the booking system as superior twin.

        • Lady London says:

could always look online to see which grades of room are currently selling around your dates for cash

    • High Grade says:

I booked a suite on points and stayed this week (2 nights). My booking confirmation always referred to it being a suite and there was no suggestion at check in that I wasn’t going to be given a suite. It’s a really nice hotel, staff very friendly and as it was so quiet they were always on hand to help. Breakfast was served in room as restaurant closed which actually felt more luxurious if I’m honest. Breakfast was really nice too. A few complimentary soft drinks in room minibar. Couldn’t fault them other than our shower being a little short but then I’m 190cm and I didn’t even bother to mention it.
Perhaps you booked a premium room rather than a suite, the suites did get booked up quite quickly. I remember not getting the dates I wanted. There were quite a few premium room options available before they were all pulled.

      • High Grade says:

If it helps I had the suite in the pictures on the IHG app. Doesn’t seem to be available this year but if you look at dates next year the 2 pictures on the app seem to be the room I had. This isn’t the same image as Rob posted when he ran the article last year. I gather some of the suites are not being used (or not finished).

I see why so many of the readers in the south don’t rate LTN!

    • Lord Doncaster says:

Riff raff 😂 Never have any brawls at Doncaster Airport 😂

      • Sandgrounder says:

The huge list of rules on the leaflet left on your table in the lounge at DSA suggests something different……

        • Lord Doncaster says:

Maybe those rules were placed there especially for your presence Sandgrounder 😂

      • Navara says:

Ranks in the top 2 for me along with Santorini

    • James Pleasant says:

I think people moaning about LTN haven’t used it recently. We used it March 2020. It’s now 100% new/ modern inside in all areas with excellent parking. No idea about the lounges, all closed. Biggest drawback could be £5 dropping off fee but that was waived throughout the pandemic I think. Train connection meant to get better pretty soon.

You get rough people in all the London airports.

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

Hahaha, not surprising but reminds me of the debate we had a few weeks ago about Luton v Stansted.

      Anyone fancy round 2? Lol

  • Nelson says:

I am just trying to change the date on my flight to Malta. Whichever date chosen in march 2022 all the time receiving alert: “Flights for at least one of the dates selected are full. Please select alternative dates.”. Availability is ok, checked on rewards fight finder. Departure on Monday 17th if that matters. Is the only option to call ba? As far as I know they charge extra fees for via phone amendments.

    • Sam G says:

When did you book? You can only go +1 year from the date you booked it. Otherwise you’ll need to call in and tell them there is a glitch – they won’t charge you as it’s something you should be able to do online. If you are +1 year then you’d need to request a future travel voucher first then call in to rebook with it
