The HfP chat thread – Friday 14th May

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Trying to bend Ernie. Had no issues in the past but today got a new message on confirmation page – ‘The record status does not allow this action’

It asked me to try again later but above message is making me think I’m on the naughty list. Had the message twice this morning.

    • Anna says:

Try updating the app, sometimes fixes issues.

    • Ernie says:

I’ve had this message once. Underlying card wasn’t charged. Been fine since.

    • Rui N. says:

Had that message a couple of times with higher (£2k+) value transactions. Always went through with lower value transactions (including on the same day as the failed deposits). Could, of course, be just a coincidence, and value might have nothing to do with it.

      • Si says:

Just tried 1,500 (rather than 4,500) but same outcome.

From other comments hopefully it’s nothing [too] sinister…

I’ll leave it for today but will try roll the dice again tomo

    • avstar says:

issue with the underlying card – most likely you have reached your credit limit.

  • Richie says:

The Northern Ireland government announced yesterday relaxtion of entry requirements from 24th May, so it appears easier CTA trips will be possible.

  • Matt says:

Does anyone know if we’ll ever be able to use the creation free night vouchers at six senses properties? Thanks.

  • KBuffett says:

I’ve received an email from Hackett – 30% off everything online and instore this weekend. Should stack with the AmEx offer.

  • Gtellez says:

My Amex gold now shows 15k Amex points for referrals… so bad that I already referred 2 people last week with the 12k points offer that just finished…

  • Pete M says:

Has anyone come across a provider who offers just the day 2 tests for arrivals from green countries? All I’m seeing is day 2+8s at the moment…

    • Pete M says:

And I should add isn’t charging £110 for one test! 🙈😆

    • Bigsi says:

Randox offer this for £60 after discount. Most UK airlines are partnering with them and offering this. I just ordered on Tuesday and arrived yesterday.

    • Sandgrounder says:

Randox with code BritishAirways50 is £60 for one PCR I think?

      • Sandgrounder says:

        Bigsi beat me to it

        • Pete M says:

You’re stars – thank you! I did look at Randox, but got the impression you could only order a green “package” with pre-departure testing in the UK included or day 2&8 only.

          • Reney says:

A family friend is using a kit from Randox Health and asked me to help understand how to send it back because his English isn’t so good. We don’t live in a big city so all the free return options are not possible (30 min drive to a drop box is not convienent) he has to use royal mail. I think they just paid £11 ish to send it back (remember tomorrow is the weekend so some of the cheaper option may not arrive within the 70 hours window). He doesn’t have a printer so paying postage online and getting it collected isn’t possible. But one of us is happy to collect and take it to the post office for him. There is also a long form you have to fill in as part of the process online. The address to send it back is different between the website and leaflet so I had to call to check which one was correct (i am impressed they were open at 7/8pm) This is all the say, having never taken one of these tests, I thought the whole thing was so much faff, they really should have better return options, at least offer a list of carriers to use rather than just say if our 2 option doesn’t work for you find something else.

  • Andrew says:

Anyone with the Harvey Nics offer – it’s 10% off in store and online until the 18th.

  • Colin says:

Rob, just to say I only got one email ( not usual three) yesterday and none today… not sure if a problem at my end ( everything else looks fine.. server with 123). or your mailchimp provider?

    • Rhys says:

Issue with you – have you checked your spam folder?

    • Rob says:

Everything fine at our end. It is your ISP blocking them, I think. If you send me the email address you are using I can check.

      • Colin says:

Oops you are right, for some reason after years they must have changed the level.

        • Alex says:

Happens to me every few months, it’ll drop 1 or 2 into spam and keep 1 or 2. Very odd.
