    Not strictly correct – you can’t automatically opt someone in to marketing materials / emails etc

    Esso are still giving you the choice to opt in, but if you don’t you can’t enter their competition

    If you think this still isn’t allowed, I’d (genuinely) be interested in where this is stated within the DPA 2018 🙂

      You don’t have to check the second box and opt in to the emails, your entry still goes through.

      I’d take a look at Article 7(4) or Recital 43 of 2016/679 which talks about Freely Given Consent

        Thank you. It’d be interesting how those points would be interpreted if taken further (and to know if the website really does have a bug with the opt in status!)

        With a few tweaks, I’m sure the situation could almost be reversed by saying it’s a competition valid for new subscribers to the newsletter 🤔 complex territory!

    Your 2nd, 4th and 6th fills of 30L or more will earn you x2, x4 and x6 more Nectar points than you would normally get on your regular fill – see what we did there? And, once you’ve reached your 8th fill, you’ll get another 500 bonus Nectar points.

      The problem is that where I live Esso fuel can be 6, 8 or 10p dearer per litre than supermarket alternatives. Chasing points then becomes a bad idea for your wallet. It’s the same as fellow readers are posting about Sainsbury’s being so much more expensive than Tesco, ruling out the benefits of a switch just for Nectar collecting.

        True. But by opting into Nectar offers on the Nectar app (in the Partner Offers section), I’m regularly getting 15-20 points per litre which brings Esso down to a comparable price to the supermarket filling stations (plus Esso is 3 miles closer than the nearest supermarket filling station in my case).

        My local Esso is across the road from Sainsbury’s, so I try and work out which 1 will be cheaper, taking into account any bonus points. last fill at Esso was £1.24 (esso) compared with £1.19 at Sainsibury’s taking into account my esso bonus, 30ltrs of unleaded was 50p more expensive at Esso on a 7x nectar esso bonus. I don’t mind paying 50p more in order to collect the bonus nectar. the things you do when you’re bored!!!!

        Which is why I didn’t move the bulk of my shopping from Asda and Lidl. Points for possible future travel or definite pounds in pocket.

          Esso is 6p/litre more than Sainsbury, I can put a tenner in (~8 litres), over pay by 48p and receive 500 nectar/312 Avios. I can live with the faf.

    I set up the Esso app a couple of weeks ago, and IIRC it would not accept Amex as a payment method, so I gave up. Did I miss something?

      I’ve just set it up, and have set Apple Pay as my default payment option. That should allow me to pay with Amex.

  Is it possible to access the BA list of hotels. We have a preferred hotel in Elche Spain and would like to use some the vouchers BA are holding. With telephone lines maxed out I would like to book online. We will fly to Alicante so all the hotels listed are around Benidorm.

    Not so much a list but if uou select ‘custom trip’ you can book a flight to one airport but select hotels in a different location, if that’s what you mean?
    We often do that by booking flights to Miami but a hotel in Orlando.

  Do you enter the entire nectar number or just the digits used to log into nectar site? I don’t want to get all this spam without getting points, not that 49p is really worth it anyway!
