British Airways launches Guernsey flights from City and Edinburgh + more Southampton, less Stansted

British Airways has launched its first flights to Guernsey.

As well as the new British Airways mainline flights announced this morning, BA CityFlyer has also announced some changes.

BA CityFlyer is the stand-alone British Airways business which runs the Embraer fleet from London City Airport. As London City Airport closes for 24 hours over the weekend, the airline uses the aircraft for an ever-changing variety of routes from other UK airports.

New British Airways flights to Guernsey

This is what was announced today. The airport code for Guernsey is GCI for readers who prefer to search for flights that way.

From London City

Guernsey (above) – launching on 25th June, two flights per week on Monday and Friday

From Edinburgh

Faro – launching on 29th May, two flights per week on Saturday and Sunday

Guernsey – launching on 25th June, two flights per week on Monday and Friday

Southampton – launching on 17th December, one flight down on Sunday and one flight up on Friday

From Southampton

Chambery – launching on 18th December, two flights per week on Saturday and Sunday

Edinburgh – launching on 17th December, one flight up on Friday and one flight down on Sunday

From Stansted

Chambery – CANCELLED – flights suspended from 17th December

Berlin – CANCELLED – flights suspended from 17th December

Bookings

Availabilty seems to be dropping into ba.com but is not yet fully there.

As these are BA CityFlyer services, Avios availability is two seats in Euro Traveller and two seats in Club Europe. Club Europe seating may take a few days to appear based on previous experience.

    Looked at Guernsey with On business points. Taxes back from Guernsey are only £5.41, so not a bad redemption for 2200 points and £11 when cash is £178. I have about 2k expiring end of year. Just need to look at hotels. Perhaps combined with Amex offer at Red Carnation Hotels.

      Good idea re OB – remember they’ve announced an extension of points to 31/12/22 though so no need to worry about expiry this year.

    Thanks for the heads up HFP (no pun intended). Great to see a move away from nectar / curve rubbish and be back on travel. Booked a number of £2 avios seats (I appreciate not the optimum use of avios re value but sitting on a covid stash so value for me). For more modern Guernsey recommendations (I travel a lot for work), Hook (Japanese/ Steak), Octopus (modern and stunning location) and Fleur de Jardin (for more authentic country pub (albeit high end)). Disclaimer -all more in line with London pricing. OGH stacks with Amex offer and is decent. Anyway, you beat most of the press to this one which helped get the avios seats so thanks.

      I really wanted to book Guernsey, but given that there is little indication when the testing regime will end which requires up to 48h wait in self-isolation from green regions (most of the UK is not on the green list yet!), I decided to hold off. You also need to pay for arrival and departure tests (if leaving earlier than 14 days) so that’s another £50 added. Latest news is some time in July they might let vaccinated tourists in without tests, but all is rather vague and nothing concrete.

    I have just finished 13 days isolation in Guernsey, I see a comment above about 48 hour wait, I believe its referring to Jersey not Guernsey, at the present time if from the UK you would need 6-7 days isolation if from tier 3 and 13/14 days if from Tier 4. there is no date set when this may change but possibly in July

      It all changes on 14 May. No self-isolation required for some places which will become category 2 (most of UK still category 3, but quite a few category 2). So under category 2 you need to wait up to 48h for the initial test and then you’re free.
