The HfP chat thread – Saturday 8th May

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Could anyone that knows please give me some feedback ……….assuming things stay as they are at the moment…….I am a British citizen with a UK passport. If would be purely classed as leisure trip. (Friends wedding in California)
After 17th May Can I travel to Mexico and stay 14 days then fly on to USA and enter on an ESTA as normal??? From what I have read I can! Has anyone done this and encountered any problems? I understand there will be quarantine when I return but I am purely concerned about the outbound trip.

    • Tazzy says:

I have read elsewhere of people doing this no bother!

Yes, I know someone who is sunning it between Florida and Cancun this year whilst the rest of us dream of sitting outside with 6 people in the rain.

    • TGLoyalty says:

You can go to Croatia and then fly to USA too…

      • Jason says:

        Thank you

      • Sam G says:

Not Croatia as it’s in the EU. You might be thinking of Serbia, that has been another popular option and has a direct flight to JFK.

Turkey has been another alternative. But personally I’d do Mexico, nice place for a holiday, plenty of flights to the US and they are well set up for the testing you need

Anyone has any retention offers of the Marriott Amex recently?

    • DJ says:

I did ask last week, but the computer says no on my account.

  • Rich says:

Hello, as anyone stayed at the rockliffe Hall in County Durham before?
I’ve been looking at a one night stay for me and my future wife is we get married in august (fourth time lucky), and As I have my £100 off on Amex on a Hyatt, this place looks quite good. I would be interested to hear if anyone’s been and what sort of price they paid as I’m unsure if this is normal pricing or hugely inflated like a lot of places are at the moment.

    • YC says:

Not been to rockliffe but always worth double checking the participating locations in the offer. Don’t believe SLH properties are on it

    • Njb says:

Yes – I have. Stayed in one of their two bed apts. How can I help?
