The HfP chat thread – Friday 7th May

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Amex plat bonus, got 20k referral bonus today for hitting 4K spend, how long do they take to add the 30k standard platinum bonus?

  • Dave says:

If I cancel an avios flight with a 2 4 1 online and get a FTV, how long does it take to be processed?

Just got some Sainsbury’s nectar offers for the first time in 3 or 4 weeks

    • Dave says:

Weirdly I had 10 that then disappeared straight away before coming back half an hour later

Someone is stealing some of mine this week, I only have 8, I normally get 12 to 16 a week

Those who got the promotional discount code from Qatar for being a teacher, but weren’t able to use it should keep an eye on their inbox…

We understand that as a teacher, you may have been unable to book your complimentary ticket with us. With you in mind, we are extending the booking and travel validity so you can still take a well-deserved trip when you are ready.
Use the one-time promo code xxxxxxxxx to book a complimentary ticket for yourself.

You can also use the additional one-time promo code xxxxxxxxxx to enjoy 50% off a ticket for your travel companion. Book on qatarairways.com or our mobile app by 30 September 2021 for travel until 31 March 2022, subject to availability.*

      I saw that earlier.
Not sure there will be any W availability in October and Feb Half terms, or at Xmas & New Year.

I recently got a refund on mine.
A very poor offering from Qatar disguised as ‘complimentary tickets’, but actually costing around 50% of a normal pair of tickets with very limited availability during school holidays.

I have also just had a positive experience – requested a £5k limit upgrade as that was the max possible in the app. I was a bit concerned about drawing attention to the account as there was a fair amount of payments to Ernie in there, but limit increase approved today, inside their guided timeline. Pleasantly surprised!

Dear HFP community, what are good T5 redemption options (IHG spire+ Hilton diamond)? Possibly with swimming pool allowing kids/or/and lounge, otherwise just convenient for early flight out next day.

I must have missed this. I spent a fair while on hold with BA to cancel Singapore flights we have booked in June. BA very kindly cancelled our flights and moved us onto different flight numbers saving us 4 x £35. I thought I was a nominee on my wife’s account but am not (maybe she has removed me before filing for divorce?) so couldn’t cancel my wife’s flights.

But the nice lady from BA said they’ve switched back on the functionality to get a full refund. So I logged into my wife’s account and indeed it is there again.

Now I’ll probably need to book some close one way flights and hope they get cancelled to preserve our 241s and my GUF2! It seemed like too much cash taking them for the Singapore flights…

Sainsbury offer for 120 nectar points and an entry for am argos gift card for buying a certain multi pack of diet coke or coke zero. Found in the partner section of the nectar app.

Could this be a new being for nectar? Getting big brands to pay the bill for promoting there products on the nectar app?

I mean after the last year or two they definitely have enough data to show it works…

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

Oh also an offer that is basically an expression of interest in a trial of a new system that “You’ll get bonus points for hitting daily and weekly activity targets”

      • 747_Brat says:

Saw that yesterday and purchased a pack (which I was going to purchase anyway ). The points haven’t posted though. But wouldn’t undergo the faff to get 60p worth of points. IME contacting Nectar can be a painful task.

The Twitter team are fantastic for missing points errors etc
