We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

    Car hire rental @ Faro Airport :
    Morning all. Normally use Tesco Clubcard CC for excess deposit when signing for car but broker I use now offering also Amex to cover same.
    1. Should I put security deposit on Amex ?( €600 and I have Amex Plat CC ) Alternatively, I can use Curve but I think a holding charge is made pending vehicle being returned.
    2. €25 required for deposit for tolls and or top-up, if more than €7 is charged during my holiday. Same questions as as no.1, please.
    From past experience I will probably rack up €40+ in tolls over a fortnight.

      I have booked Crete hoping for the same… Why would you think it won’t be on the Green List?

        Just the way BA have added a ton of new flights to FAO and GIB in the last 24 hours suggests they’ve been given the nod. But of course who knows and fingers crossed 🤞.

    Back in the Amex game after a 2 year + 2 day gap and plat referral from daughter. Started with nectar card. Pathetic credit limit (2k vs 20 k in 2019) and worryingly no target progress bar for the 2k spend bonus. Will I need to call.. ?

      It’s normal for there to not be a tracker, or for it to appear and disappear. Amex IT seems to have an issue with this.

        +1 tracker is hit and miss, bonus still posts as long as it’s definitely been >24 months

          +1 we had no tracker for Nectar card, but did for Plat. Nectar bonus did arrive and we were definitely >24 months between cards.

            Thanks all – good to have the confirmation yes 2 years + 2 days 😉 Platinumn just approved as next card as 2k limit is useless!

    Looks like BA removed the notification of the amount of avios and TPs you would earn from your flight bookings in MMB during the upgrade earlier this week.

      Mine’s still showing on my iPhone app under “Your booking details” in MMB.

      If BA goes to not publishing a price list for flights using avios as others have done (eg Delta) then many of us will probably cease choosing them.

      I saw that this mornibg also, thought my account had been hacked & emptied then a refresh a few mins later & balance back again.
      My VA CC points have not swept over yet this month, always happens 4 – 5th each month, anyone else seeing the Same late VA CC points at the moment?

        Interesting.
        That shows points are added by overwriting with a complete new record rather than being calculated on each record and updated directly on the database. Interesting.
