British Airways has confirmed the Manchester to Faro route we mentioned in our article this morning. It has also added a Newcastle to Faro route.

Intriguingly, Newcastle will be a single class service with, for now, no Club Europe cabin. This is under evaluation and it will be added if catering issues can be resolved.

Manchester to Faro timings

  • The service will operate from 29th May to 19th June
  • There will be one flight per week, on a Saturday
  • BA516 will depart Manchester at 10.35, arriving in Faro at 13.50
  • BA517 will depart Faro at 14.30, arriving in Manchester at 17.35

Newcastle to Faro timings

  • The service will operate from 29th May to 20th June
  • There will be two flights per week, on Saturday and Sunday
  • BA512 will depart Newcastle at 12.35, arriving in Faro at 15.45
  • BA513 will depart Faro at 16.40, arriving in Newcastle at 19.50

Both services will use standard Airbus short-haul aircraft – these are not BA CityFlyer services. Tickets are available now on ba.com.

  • Novice says:

Why only 1 month? Unless they want to see demand before they extend or is it something to do with slots?

    • Nick says:

It’s only while Portugal is pretty much the only place Brits can go. The expectation is that as more countries are added to the open list there won’t be the same level of demand (and yield) there any more.

Obviously if customers prove otherwise, flights can be added in later.

      • Bagoly says:

Which is why I was expecting these to be daily.
I guess if reasonable prices sell out quickly they will add more.

  • Mr(s) Entitled says:

Given the number of aircraft at BA’s disposal and the limited destinations, is it not odd that they aren’t making more use of Manchester? It services multiple BA flights a day, albeit domestic, so presumably it has the infrastructure required to be scaled up?

    • Novice says:

      I know that’s what I thought.

    • M says:

I guess they don’t have the crew there so would have to play schedules using LHR.

  • Shaun Lindsay says:

    Wish they would announce Gibraltar

  • M says:

£400 one way from MAN on 28th??? £700 on 12 June?? Have they not loaded up the prices yet or has it sold out that quickly?

    • Harry T says:

One ways are always expensive. Also, supply and demand.

      • M says:

One way short haul don’t work like that on BA. They are marginally more expensive than returns. I don”t think they have opened up the flight fully yet.

    • Jonathan says:

They’ve either not loaded Avios for MAN-FAO yet or the whole of June disappeared in less than an hour (suspect the latter).

  • Dev says:

Maybe the future is for BA to build up a decent short-haul network in Manchester. With the speed in which the UK government are moving, that’s probably best way for the airline. Multiple routes from UK Airports to various green list destinations. Bloody covid has truly messed the world up!

  • Stuart says:

I don’t get how they can’t resolve a catering issue at Newcastle. Surely the plane is coming in from LHR to operate this flight especially so it can be loaded there?

    • Stuart says:

Looks like I can book club Europe now from Newcastle

  • Sam says:

Just hold your horses, I don’t think people from the U.K. are allowed for admission to Portugal for leisure reasons as of May or even June?
