The HfP chat thread – Thursday 6th May

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I’m quite liking IHGs new dynamic pricing today. 10-13 September in Manchester for park life, 3 nights on points at the Kimpton for 22k points per night. Cash price £240 per night 🙂

  • Chris L says:

A data point – The first Amex offer on my new BAPP appeared today, 3 1/2 weeks after activating the card. Hopefully that will start more coming through.

    • bafan says:

Yeah I was approved for the PRG 2+ weeks ago and one offer is on it (the Hyatt). I even get the Deliveroo offer pop ups on the landing page but then it’s not in my Offers. Maybe I should use it more but I do have better cards so.

  • Andrew says:

IC O2 seems to have pushed back its opening date to 24 June – for anyone interested.

    • DJ says:

Where did you see that? I’m still seeing 17th May on the app.

      • DJ says:

Just checked the IHG website, I can still see:

We are delighted to be reopening to the public on 17th May 2021 and are accepting bookings.

        • Andrew says:

Based on no rooms available until the end of June. Guess they just haven’t updated the home page yet, despite the booking engine being updated to reflect the later opening date.

          • DJ says:

            Thanks ..

I really hope it’s not the case .. since I got a booking for the 21st May weekend 🙁

  • The cyclist says:

    • Genghis says:

Has this turned into the Accelerate comments? 🙂

      • Stu N says:

One benefit of the pandemic is lack of lists of accelerate targets….

        My Nectar offers:
        10 points on oranges
        20 points on who cares
30 points on why am I even typing this
40 points on if you’re still reading this, why?
50 points on kill me now

    • Aston100 says:

Careful with those TTD easy peelers.
      The label says 600g.
I went into a store recently and weighed approx 15 packs of these.
They were all under 500g each.
      That’s probably 2 Mandarins short.

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

Probably dodgy scales, there are laws regulating what weight they can say something is. Nothing for scales, including at the airport if you ever have a problem…

        • Super Secret Stuff says:

Actually airport scales have to be accurate within 10% but you get the point

          • ChrisC says:

Trading Standards Officers have the power uner various Weights & Measures Acts to check any equipment that weighs or measures items sold to the public

That includes scales for weighing fruit and veg in shops and optics and glasses in pubs and petrol pumps. And airport scales are included in that as well

If you think a stores scales are inaccurate then complain to Trading Standards. Ditto if you think there is a weight issue with pre packaged items as well

    • Harrier25 says:

God, I don’t give a toss about your 20 bonus nectar points for bananas.

  • Reader M says:

Can anyone enlighten me on what Ernie is in the context of Bendy 😀 Thank you!

    • Aston100 says:

      Ernie is a revolutionary.
      Bendy is quite Curvy.

      • Aston100 says:

        WTF is wrong with me.
        Ignore that.

        Che is a revolutionary.
        Bendy is quite Curvy.
Ernie isn’t quite 007, but is a fairly premium Bond.

        • Wollhouse says:

Aston100, as I’m sitting in Bangkok, still stuck in quarantine, reading yesterday’s comments over my coffee, that made me actually guffaw, so thanks!

  • nige says:

Dragonpass – i took advantage of the redbydufry cheap Dragonpass visits when it was available last year, and when lockdown came of course i couldn’t use purchased visits. By e mail they said they’d extend my membership from Jan 21 till Jan 22, so i didn’t request a refund, but they have expired my membership in March 21 ! I’ve e mailed a couple of times but no response yet…just as i want to go somewhere next month ! anyone else had this ?

    • Jonathan says:

Yep, quite a lot of people have reported similar although others have kept the extended expiry date & even some reports of membership expiry extended but lounge passes expired. Rob was supposed to be meeting them last week & was going to raise it but I believe they postponed.

      • avstar says:

        Thank you for your email.

Please kindly note that your case is still being reviewed as we need to have discussions with Red by Dufry. We will get back to you as soon as we have an update regarding your enquiry.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

  • YC says:

Assuming traffic lights get announced tomorrow, do we know/best guess when the next review will be and the effective dates of the next set?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Every 3 weeks according to Paul Charles but nothing official til it’s announced

  • Aston100 says:

Hello, are the referral bonuses separate on the PRG and the Plat? i.e. 90k MR from each? or is it (as I’ve always thought) 90k MR combined?

I ask because Player 2 seems to have a separate MR balance against their PRG and also their Plat. Both of which were used for making referrals.

I assumed all the MR would have pooled into a joint MR balance for both the PRG and the Plat.

What happens if Player 2 cancels just one of those cards without moving the MR into an airline/hotel scheme?

    • Travel Strong says:

They only pool if linked properly. Half the time they link with no intervention, half the time they require amex to sort it out. If you are cancelling a card and keeping a card, they always check before cancelling that the linkage is okay – part of their standard checklist when you call to cancel.

However – your post raises a good point that an unlinked account may have its own earning potential for referrals, if it went unnoticed!

      • TGLoyalty says:

If it’s not linked then it will have its own referral limit.

        • Aston100 says:

I might be in luck then!
That said, I’ve run out of people to refer.
          Players 1 & 2 have 4 main cards each.
No other players want to play our game, preferring c@shb@ck cards or debit cards 🙁
