The HfP chat thread – Thursday 6th May

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Has anyone paid into iWeb with Bendy and Beardy? Does iWeb accept this payment method? Does Beardy charge any interest or cash advance fees?

  • Genghis says:

    That’s it

  • Morris says:

Has anyone ever booked a hotel via the Amex “Vacation Collection” offering? There is very little information about it in forums/blogs. How are the rates, etc.?

Merits of Crypto aside… has anyone had luck with any Bendy fronted card and Coinbase deposits? It seems like a no?

Curve’s Terms Of Service state you can’t use it to pay for cryptocurrencies – the card will decline at most if not all MCC 6051 merchants.

I hope you don’t mind the shameless plug, but Luno.com supports funding via a Visa/Mastercard (I worked there for a while, setting up their UK engineering team). Using my code 765VK Gets you £10 of free Bitcoin with a purchase of £100.

Just wanted to give a quick shout out to Emyr at Bon Vivant. I had a TINY requirement – literally 2 separate nights at the Bangkok IC. I joined Platinum Ambassador when Rob promoted the offer last year (it’s been REALLY useful in lockdown…..;) so I thought Emyr would think my enquiry was a time waster as I could get many of his benefits via that. But, not at all! He responded really quickly and was very keen to stress he is always available to help, no matter how small the request. Really fast, efficient service and so just wanted to feed that back as people might be booking dinky trips, which we perhaps wouldn’t normally consider him for.

    • Mouse says:

+1 I’m a regular customer now, his service is top notch

    • ChrisC says:

      Yes he really is excellent.

Just wish I could actually manage to stay for one of the bookings he has made for me rathet than havie to cancel or move them!

      • DeB20 says:

        +1

When travel resumes, I will make many more hotel bookings through Emyr.

    • Harry T says:

      Emyr is terrific.

      • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

Emyr offers a top class service, i’ll now be a regular customer.

  • Super Secret Stuff says:

Just got an email from SeatFrog, the ones who manage last minute upgrades on trains, about investing before the general public. Very interesting.

Might be of interest to a lot of HfPers because I know they want to expand into aviation

  • Josh says:

    Hi All,

My sister opened a Plat Biz amex for the 100k offer as her first ever amex card.

I have since started the referral order for her as per the HFP main article, however the amex live chat is saying that she isnt eligible for the welcome bonus offer because she has a platinum biz card already. Arent they operated separately?

    Thanks

    • IanM says:

Your query isn’t very clear. What is she applying for if she already has a Platinum?

      • Rob says:

If she already has Bus Plat then she CAN get the bonus on personal Platinum. The Bus Plat card doesn’t count – the rules on personal Platinum say this clearly.

If she has personal Plat she CAN’T get the bonus on Business Plat. The personal Plat card does count as the rule is different.

    • Genghis says:

      She’s eligible for bonuses
      – bonvoy / nectar – no personal Amex in past 24 months
      – plat personal – no personal MR card in past 24 months
      – BAPP – no avios earning card in past 24 months.
      Go in that order.
