We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Received 694 nectar today backdated to 16 April. British Airways bonus points. I have no idea why. Anyone shed any light?

    • John says:

Is it the double points for Jan to Apr sainsburys shopping?

      • Rob says:

        It will be.

        • Will says:

Could be but I spent over £450 there. Not going to be worth chasing a correction. Thanks for the suggestion

          • Will says:

Duh. 1 point per pound extra. 694 prob correct. (450 was spent on the Sainsbury’s credit card for the 10k bonus, extra spending on other credit cards). Makes sense now

    • Cat says:

Oddly I received exactly 694 Nectar points too (backdated to 14th April though).
      Most odd.

      • Will says:

Customers will also be rewarded with 2x Nectar points at Sainsbury’s until 19 April 2021.16th April was my last qualifying spend. I guess 14th april was your last one too. Maybe we are both just buying the same promos…..

  • Mark says:

Woke up to 15k in bonus avios on my BAPP, in 2 chunks 10k and 5k. Any idea why? Not referred anyone or added a supp.

    • Doug M says:

Few posts in recent days commenting on this, like random bonus time.

    • Alex says:

Have you had any recent large transactions? Over £1000?

      • Mike says:

I have and suddenly got a 10 k avios bonus

        • Alex says:

Yeah it seems to be some glitch with £1K plus transactions… I haven’t seen any “offers” which match up with it

        • Rob says:

Friend of mine got 10k for a large (£9k) purchase last week.

          • Optimus Prime says:

I have a £50 promotional credit bonus on two business supp cards from last week. No idea where those came from…

      • Mark says:

Yep one 2k and 1k spends, think they’ll get clawed back?

      • G says:

I’ve just made a speculative £1000 overpayment to my energy supplier from my BAPP, let’s see if that attracts some bonus Avios!

  • Mighty Hunter says:

Thanks re. Paypal, however I’ve tried multiple times with my card and my wife’s supplementary, using autofill and manually entering the full details, all won’t work.
I don’t want the flights to increase in price so I suppose I’ll have to pay with a different card and lose the Avios points, most irritating

    • John says:

You could try on the phone for a £15(?) fee which might be waived if you convince them the website should be accepting your card

  • Mighty Hunter says:

Unfortunately they are hotline (ex-BA staff, small discount), which can’t be processed by an agent. Just online chatted to Amex again, they’re no help, just say try later

    • Mighty Hunter says:

Bizarre. I thought the risk of the price increasing outweighed the lost Avios so went ahead with a different credit card(s) – all failed. Paypal all fine though, linked to one of the failed cards!
Only change since I last booked my wife is that she achieved Gold status at the beginning of last week, but I can’t see how that would make a difference

      • Sam G says:

sounds to me like your browser is doing something with the BA site payment widget – try clearning cache and cookies

        • Mighty Hunter says:

I’ll try that next time thanks

          • Will says:

My safari fails on lots of payments so use chrome instead. No idea why.

  • Sarah says:

Is there a minimum amount of avios required to transfer from Iberia to BA? When I go to combine my avios it says I can only transfer from BA to Iberia but not the other way round.

    • Optimus Prime says:

You have to use an avios.com account to pull them from IB and then push to BA.

      • Sarah says:

Hi thanks I managed to transfer from IB to avios and then use combine my avios on BA to get them from Avios.

  • Ali M says:

Happy to receive nectar points on Sainsbury’s energy monthly spend this am 😅

  • Dr Tom says:

Anyone had any luck with getting Virgin to send the points voucher for the bank account transfer.

I applied through the app deal and was sent the wine voucher. Contacted through Twitter, regarded to the mobile app. Used that, first person didn’t help and cut themselves off. Second person seemed to know exactly the problem and said I’d get a replacement voucher within a week. It’s now been two weeks and still no sign of the voucher. Do I have to go through all the rigmarole again?

    • Jay says:

To get anyone to look at it, best bet is contact via chat and ask them to raise as a formal compliant as waited 2 weeks and no resolution. This way it will get escalated.

    • Newbie says:

Yeah, same thing happened to me, I called the switching team and was told that it’s happens quite often. About 4 weeks after I got a callback from virgin and they gave me the voucher code over the phone.

    • James says:

+1 to call the switching team. I got the points code by phone about a week and a half after I called. Though obviously not ideal in the first place, they were all very efficient in resolving it.

    • Doug M says:

Raise as formal complaint via secure message. You’ll get at least £50 as well as the points. VM poor.

  • Laura says:

    Hello!

Thanks for the help with my grandad’s Lloyds Avios card saga.

Luckily, he got a letter recently from Lloyds that had his BA account number on it.

I requested to reset the password and then put a message in the family group chat to see if anyone had the email.

In the end, it only took about ten minutes to update his account to “his” own email (actually, he doesn’t even know he has an email hahah).

He has 14,460 Avios in his account and still a month to collect, so it was definitely worth checking!
