The HfP chat thread – Friday 30th April

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Any kind of U.K. address available for GotoGate, SuperSaver, MyTrip (all the same firm) to issue a MCOL?

  • Ikaz says:

A few people were asking at the start of the year, but I have just received my 5,000 bonus IHG points for staying once and paying with the creation mastercard in December last year. It took 2 online missing point requests to get it sorted (they ignored my first request).

    • Kevin says:

I received mine last week after several emails and phone calls with creation

      • Andrew says:

Thanks for the headsup. I won’t bother with the latest 10k Creation promotion for taking a 3 night stay then. Nothing worse than a promotion that doesn’t pay out.

    • James says:

Got mine within a few days of checkout, no problem.

  • Laura says:

I booked the Park Plaza Waterloo when the offer was on a few weeks ago.
The upgrades site is currently offering me an update to an Executive Double for £12 and states it includes “Access to our Executive Lounge from 6pm-8pm, offering evening drinks and canapés”

This is a no-brainer right? A glass of wine in London can easily cost £10. I can’t really find much about it online, so just wanted to check I wasn’t throwing away £12!

    • Kai says:

Only issue is that the lounge may not be open, so better to confirm with the hotel first.

      • Laura says:

Oh, that’s a point. Will be staying after May, when hopefully things will be open, so fingers crossed.

        Thanks!

      • Rob says:

If it was shut, you would presumably get free breakfast in the restaurant and a couple of drinks vouchers for the bar, so a one-way bet. The exec room potentially has other bells and whistles too, potentially coffee machine, robe, better toiletries etc.

    • the_real_a says:

Kai is correct – although you could ask for credit from the hotel/bar restaurant in lieu if you booked for the sole purpose of the lounge, and that was on the provision of the executive room 🙂 All playing the game of course…

    • Grant says:

Where do the offers appear? Is it in the MMB section?

      • Laura says:

I looked in my original booking confirmation and then clicked on “request custom upgrade.”

I looked before and the price has come down quite a bit, it wasn’t really worth it before, although I can’t remember how much it was.

  • Mike1 says:

What card behind Curve allows me to pay off Virgin?

  • Wally1976 says:

Regarding the Amex offer of points for adding a first supplementary card to Marriott, ARCC and Harrods cards – has anyone had any luck cancelling a supplementary card and then adding it back a few days later??

  • Jonathan says:

Typically how long do Amex referral points take to post, being the person who referred a new person?

  • KBuffett says:

Is there anyway to preload UberEats to take advantage of the AmEx offer before it expires?

    • Kevin C says:

I made the classic tip mistake and got a twenty pence rebate on Uber Eats with my offer. That’s the problem with not using cash any more.

  • Steve says:

Unexpectedly Bendy and Hong Kong just worked with AJBell.

    • Steve says:

      Unfronted, non-metal

      • AC says:

Lot of hassle for only 1%

        • Steve says:

That’s literally what the points and c@shb@ck game is all about, lots of hassle for small margins that soon add up. I think you’re on the wrong site if that doesn’t interest you.

          • Raveon says:

+1 Often a completely irrational amount of hassle for small rewards!
