Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 28th April

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Never used BA family and friend for booking a reward ticket for someone else who is not in household account. Any risk? Whose card should be used for paying tax? Thanks

    • Chris Heyes says:

Lee slight risk is BA thinking you might profit from doing it
BA Doesn’t allow you to book for anyone else and gain from it.
They could and have closed Avios accounts and Avios lost for doing just that
that’s why safer household Acc or another way round it would be open a friends and family acc
      I Have both
There is nothing stopping you being generous and booking for a friend

      • Lee says:

Thanks Chris, do you have to be registered under same address for household account. It may look suspicious if we update address then form household account immediately.

    • TGLoyalty says:

I can’t see an issue if it’s just a booking now and again for a friend or 2

If you are booking for a new person every week they might shut you down.

    • Doug M says:

I’ve booked reward flights for around 10 other people over last 4 years or so, several who I wasn’t travelling with. Never a problem.

  • Rob says:

Rule applies, so she won’t get the 5% deal.
