Which InterContinental hotels give free club lounge access if you use a ‘preferred partner’ agent?

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

You may not know that you can get free access to club lounges at some InterContinental hotels if you book via a travel agent who is affiliated to the exclusive Virtuoso network.

This is a benefit which is well worth knowing about, because IHG / InterContinental does not offer lounge access to top-tier members of its IHG Rewards programme.

IHG does offer InterContinental lounge access to Royal Ambassador cardholders.  This requires a high level – into US$ five figures it seems – of annual spend across InterContinental, Kimpton and Regent to qualify, so don’t pin your hopes on that.

IHG’s approach is particularly poor.  If you’re Hilton Honors Diamond, you get lounge access.  If you’re Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite or Titanium Elite, you get lounge access.  If you are IHG Rewards Spire Elite, you get a free chocolate bar and 600 bonus points at check-in at most European hotels …..

Luckily, there is a way around this.  A handful of top InterContinental hotel are part of the Virtuoso luxury hotels network.  These can only be booked by a closed network of hand-picked travel agents, of which our hotel booking partner Emyr Thomas is one of the few in the UK.

The following InterContinental hotels will give you guaranteed lounge access if you book them via Emyr (details here).

The price will usually be Best Flexible Rate.  If you were booking a flexible rate anyway then this is a genuinely free extra bonus.  If you would otherwise book Advanced Purchase (non-refundable) then you will pay a little more but you are getting a substantial list of extra benefits which should easily offset the cost.

For clarity, you WILL earn IHG Rewards points on these rates.  If you are also InterContinental Ambassador, my experience is that the hotels will often upgrade you an additional level, as Virtuoso bookings also come with an upgrade.

Sadly, the Barclays has yet to reopen…

  • Roger* says:

Davos is closed and is unlikely to reopen.

    • Olly says:

It’s website shows it reopening in December this year, the start of the ski season hopefully. Nice hotel

  • Dave says:

Emyr is tel aviv on this list please

    • Phil says:

Not for lounge access. But you do get:
Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability
Daily Buffet breakfast, for two guests per bedroom served in restaurant
$100 USD Equivalent Food & Beverage credit (not combinable, no cash value if not redeemed in full. Not applicable to Mini Bar charges or at Che Cigar Bar.)
Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability
      Complimentary Wi-Fi

    • Rob says:

We’d have put it on the list if it was on the list 🙂

The hotel will offer the other benefits, eg breakfast, upgrade etc.

  • Jonathan says:

I thought anything “subject to availability on arrival” had no value to you Rob as it’s too late to cancel if they don’t upgrade & there’s no way of enforcing it even if you know there are better rooms available?

  • Stron says:

Worth noting that in my experience they are quite accommodating with children. You can’t take them in the club in the evening but they will put you in the normal restaurant and allow you to choose from a fairly decent menu. The club at IC Osaka was very good.

  • Diydegsy says:

Are these the only ones out of all Intercontinental hotels worldwide what about the Intercontinental Mexico City?

  • Paul W Court says:

Your linked review of IC Ljubljana states there are no BA flights between London and Ljubljana. It appears there are now on most days; this is a business class search for early July 21 LHR to LJU:
    SUN 4 – £148
    MON 5 – £189
    TUE 6 – No flight
    WED 7 JUL – £154
    THU 8 – No Flight
    FRI 9 – £185
    SAT 10 – £199
    Regards
    Paul

    • meta says:

The review is from before BA introduced flights.

    • ChrisC says:

The review is from November 2017.

The one for Park lane from May 2016, The Barclay May 2016 and Paris from 2014.

User these as guides not gospel – especially anything not specific to the hotel

  • BuilBackBetter says:

I guess a night booked through Emyr wouldn’t be eligible for the latest Ambassador new member offer? (One paid night to get a free night voucher)

    • Harry T says:

      I reckon it would be

      • Anna says:

+1 – they recognise your status and the booking appears like any other in your account and triggers points etc.

      • Rob says:

Yes, should be, because IHG treat it as a qualifying stay for all other purposes.
