The HfP chat thread – Saturday 24th April

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

BA cancelled outbound LHR to LAX in May, booked with points and 2for1. I assume options are same as Robs previous article given I booked in October during the sale.

Rebooking on any available flights before October of my choice as within 1 year of booking?
    OR
FTV containing points and 2for1 extending its expiry to 2023?

    • Anna says:

I’m not sure they’ll book you on ANY flight, you’d have to get a very nice CSA to do that. Usually they cite the 300 mile “rule” (and that’s when they’re not insisting you are only entitled to a refund or a voucher).

    • Louise K says:

I was re-booked to SAN with no issues.

  • Rob says:

I’m still having this battle with BA who, up until now have been telling me that as the 2-4-1 promotion ends on 30 June, they will not honour it after that!
However, the lady in You First, would honour the one year rule but said that no flights were available! My cancelled flight was LHR to SFO.

    • Lady London says:

book other flights with travel agent see earlier posts past two weeks and mcol them now. If BA has no flights you have a window to do this. Remember mcol is not onerous and small cost and you will get all your costs back plus any booking fee.

If you wantan early settlement from BA take the opportunity to book the much better seating on some AA aircraft.

If you want to slug it out book an airline that’s not in the cartel…errr, I mean the Transatlantic [revenue-sharing] Agreement.

  • Lady London says:

try to move it online in MMB yourself first. If you leave at least a few days after receiving the canx notice you may be able to move it further ahead. There’s a strong school of thought BA is not actually allowed to apply 12 month restriction if they cancelled esp as some people’s purpose of travel or holiday restictions, length of time needed to make longhaul worthwhile etc, may be only a certain time of year or event date/reorganisation.

You can take a refund but as any move would be free it’d be a bit nuts to. You can also insist on travelling on reasonably closd timed flight even on anothee airline if necessary and they are responsible for any extra hotels meals refreshments for the flight delay but unlikely to be of interest currently plus BA will try to deny other airline (they wont succeed but seem to rely on obstruction).

FTV only if your voucher would expire and you want more than 1 year ahead.

Take your time you don’t have to decide by the date of your cancelled flight. If they autobooked you onto a different one phone them and say you wont be on it and will phone again when you know when you want to rebook it to.

Personally I’d wait a bit and then MMB to Christmas or maybe April next year ie less than 355 days ahead of when I am trying it and see if it will rebook me. May only work for untouched bookings without connections though.

Anyone got Barclaycard Hilton Honors points post to their Honors account this month ? Normally post on 22nd of each month but looks like they are late again.

    • Anna says:

I’ve not had mine yet, but my statement was 4 days later than usual so I’m expecting a similar delay with the points.

      • Jay says:

Yes, I noticed the statements were late by a few days as well…. Barclaycard too busy reducing credit limits. Anyone with a Hilton Barclaycard had a credit limit reduction?

        • Sloth says:

Probably more likely taking into account the Easter bank holidays…Creation statement was delayed as well

  • kitten says:

This is the only one that might work. Dont even bother contacting IHG

    • kitten says:

for @Steve previous page. referring to Alan reply.
When is someone going to fix the reply mispositioning.

  • The Original Nick. says:

Amex Nectar Question: My OH gor the Amex Nectar card last week. Does it not show your spend and how much more you need to spend to hit the sign up bonus just like the Amex Platinum and the PRG on account? Thanks.

    • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

No – as far as I’m aware Amex only has those trackers in respect of the annual spend targets – SUBs don’t get shown and you need to work it out yourself if you want to track it

      • TGLoyalty says:

Sign up bonus trackers do show up on all cards, if you’re eligible, but they are hit and miss.

  • Anna says:

So my Amex Platinum supp arrived – and it’s also metal! I can barely contain myself. I can hear Andrew telling me it’s totally worth the fee … can I claim that it’s only £287.50 as we now have 2 of these beauties?!

    • Jack says:

Of course you can:-) I requested supplementary green in my name, as platinum makes my wallet too heavy 🙂

    • Andrew says:

Absolutely!! That’s just the price of a boozy lunch, and you’ve got that lovely card in your wallet for a whole year!

      • Pete M says:

First world problem – I now hardly ever carry my wallet, using Apple Pay for everything. So no chance of showing the metal card off! 🙂

    • Harry T says:

You are very late to this party 😂

      • Anna says:

OH was waiting for his 2 year gap to be up last month. It’s tied in very well with the 50k sign up bonus!

    • Steve says:

I’m contemplating keeping the card in the wallet, just for its prettiness even once you’ve cancelled it!

      • Lord Doncaster says:

A boozy lunch costs almost £300? I still find it hard to believe Andrew shops in Lidl 😂

        • Anna says:

That’s obviously why he can afford the £300 lunch! Look after the pennies and all that.

  • Venturelog says:

Has anyone been able to use the Amex Harrods offer to purchase an Apple product online or in store?
