Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

The HfP chat thread – Saturday 24th April

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I have a friend who has never had an Amex. He finally agreed to be referred. What would be the best strategy to get elevated sign up bonuses before closing date? I am thinking if he could apply for. 2 cards? but which 2? He won’t meet the spend requirements for 2 cards just in May but can he get 2 cards and keep going as long as it is before deadline?

    • Steve says:

Get a Nectar and then a Platinum. But can he put 6k on the cards in 3 months?

  • John says:

    Asked yesterday:
Has anyone managed to submit an Hilton stays match through the link – keeps saying “documents can’t be loaded” or “system error”
Anyone have an email address I can contact?
    Thanks

  • Ron says:

Airtime Rewards – I’m on a Three monthly plan, redeemed £10 to my Three mobile number. How do I know it has gone through ok? Thanks.

    • StevieKicks says:

You should get a text, and then it’ll show on your next bill

  • ben says:

Any workaround of cancelling avios flight online and get avios + cash back rather than the e-voucher? Been on hold for ages today…!

    • Clive says:

Not online but I used this number as was through in minutes the other day +442032500145

    • ChrisC says:

Unless it’s urgent I’d leave it until early next week. BA cancelled a lot of flights this week so the lines will be busy with people thinking they have to deal with it immediately!

  • Stuart Evans says:

Ever optimistic, I’m thinking of Avios travel in the second half of 2022. Is it possible to use a BAPP Companion Voucher to do an Open Jaw (1) outbound LHR > LAX and (2) inbound SYD > LHR

    • Genghis says:

      No.
The distance between the jaws needs to be shorter than both of the flown legs.
      SYD-LAX > LHR-LAX.
SCL and SYD could be an option if you can find availability.
      SFO and TYO also works.

    • Andy says:

Is it optimistic to think of travelling the second half of 2022?! I’m optimistically thinking I’ll be able to go away and things will be at least some sort of normal well before then..

      • Harry T says:

Travel will happen this summer but no one is getting into Australia for their holidays this year.

    • Craig says:

Really not convinced Australia will be open by then, they’ve backed themselves into a zero Covid strategy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m jealous of the freedom but this disease isn’t going away anytime soon.

      • The real John says:

Australia has just made it illegal for Australians to depart New Zealand for a country other than Australia

  • mart says:

can anyone tell me if the virgin Atlantic credit card upgrade vouchers got extended from 12 month to 24 month ,and if so what date ?

    • Sandgrounder says:

Give them a text and they will tell you the expiry dates of your vouchers.

  • Newbie says:

When I upgrade my free BA card for BAPP will the card number stay the same?
