Visit BA’s ‘Landor’ Boeing 747 at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome on 26th June

British Airways may have retired its Boeing 747 fleet but, as we reported last year, a few aircraft will live on.

One of these is the ‘Landor’ Boeing 747, so-called because it features the historic livery designed by the Landor agency. This livery was used between 1984 and 1997. The aircraft, registration G-BNLY, was repainted as part of the ‘BA 100’ centenary celebrations.

Tour the ‘Landor’ on 26th June

The ‘Landor’ Boeing 747 is being given a new lease of life at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey.

On 26th June, you have your first chance to visit the aircraft.

To quote the website:

“We are please to offer you the first ever opportunity to get onboard and to photograph a British Airways 747 since retirement. Get up close and personal, explore the exterior in detail, roam around and get those up close photos that you can’t ever get of a commercial jet. Then get onboard and visit the cockpit, the various classes of cabin. Take all those photos, videos and selfies onboard the one and only Landor 747 BA100 anniversary jet.”

The site will be open between noon and 5pm and you can arrive whenever you want. There will be aviation-related stalls available and outdoor catering.

Children are welcome but under 12’s must be accompanied at all times. There is no charge for children under 10.

There is a more private evening event too

To cater primarily for those who wish to take photographs of the aircraft without other people being in the way, Dunsfold is running an evening event on the same day.

Running from 6pm to 10pm, it costs £40 per ticket. You will be allowed to tour the aircraft before the door are closed and the cabins cleared. You will then be able to take exterior shots as the sun goes down without any obstructions.

The event includes a barbeque – it isn’t clear is this is included in the price.

    I’m bi-polar on this, I was optimistically mentally planning holidays to the US and Malta on the basis we’d done a decent job with the vaccination programme.       Really don’t think the use of ‘bi-polar’ here is appropriate at all. Totally understand your point, but there are other ways to get it across without trivialising and belittling mental health conditions that are horribly debilitating and cause such suffering to so many people.

With the writing on the wall a few years ago I planned/ scheduled last flights on the rust bucket of the skies in their respective first/ club (Qantas & delta didn’t do first)- Cathay, Thai, ba, Qantas and Delta. Some get first to fly; I went for last to fly …

I made my peace with the BA 747s about two years ago – they don’t schedule them on my normal trips to Asia so I went to South Africa. LHR to JNB:

In true clapped out BA/747 fashion; we were late leaving as they had issues starting the engines as the apu decided to go tech.

In flight the F cabin was dry/ squeaky, and dirty, Sitting at the front of the plane and almost looking forward was always great though.

Then we arrived in JNB parked at a remote stand and because the APU was knackered the plane rapidly turned into an oven due to the unusual and unplanned sunshine of Africa.

The return flight was on a 380 was and better in pretty much every way even if the drivers get to sit at the front.

  This experience was similar to my last few flights on the B747 and it put me off them forever. In 2017, 40 years after my first flight on a B747 as a child, I said my goodbyes to this aircraft.

  Same here! 64K both ways LHR-LAS. Landed back at Heathrow on 1st Jan 2020 – never could have guessed then 1) what was on the horizon and 2) how long I’d be waiting for my next long haul flight…
