We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    Random question.

Recently referred Player 2 for a Nectar card, and they don’t qualify for the sign up bonus as they’ve had an AMEX within the last 24 months.

    1) Is it normal for the ‘Offers’ tab to be completely empty? It has been a week or so now and still there are no offers whereas all our other cards have them. Not sure if this is an IT issue or not.

    2) What are the chances that AMEX IT is sub-par and by some stroke of luck the sign up bonus comes in? I activated the card on an account that used to belong to an AMEX card cancelled long ago and during the application process. I guess there’d be a “spend counter” or something tracking towards it on the dashboard right?

    • Craig says:

Referred Mrs S a couple of weeks ago, same situation of no sign up bonus. Offers started to appear after about 5 days, four entirely useless offers so far.

    • Triath5 says:

Thanks Peter K and Craig for info. I’m trying to remember whether in the past I’ve had missing “Sign up bonus spend counters” for bonuses that I 100% qualified for and still received.

Been a while so not sure but have read rumblings here that it doesn’t really matter.

      • Craig says:

I’ll spend £2k on the card anyway and see what happens, it’s still earning 1.25 Avios per £, considering I don’t have a BAPP then it’s worth it even if the Amex IT works.

  • Peter K says:

    1. It can be up to a month to get offers. More likely to get off you spend on the card.

    2. Sometimes you can get the bonus but amex IT seems to be improving I’m finding.

  • Phil says:

Our easyJet Plus renewal is due at the end of May. We currently have no easyJet flights booked until July-21, Sept-21, and Jul-22, all of which have been booked into extra legroom/over wing seats using the easyJet Plus benefit.

Am I right in thinking that these will be maintained in the booking, even if I let our easyJet Plus memberships lapse and in reality I only really need to renew our membership when I am confident I will be booking enough flights to justify the cost benefit of maintaining easyJet Plus.

We’ve been members for nearly 7 years but I cannot fathom why I would renew right now.

    Thoughts and guidance welcome.

Best way to buy crypto? Looking to get some SafeMoon

    • Yorkie Aid says:

Could you explain why you favour that particular one over say Dogecoin or Ethereum or even Bitcoin? I’m fascinated. Thanks.

    • Tim says:

You will need to buy BNB to swap for Safemoon, which you can do with a Binance account – here’s my link which gets you 10% off trading fees: https://www.binance.com/en/register?ref=JM4EOLET

      • Yorkie Aid says:

Tim. I had read that it was only possible to withdraw fiat from Binance in either Rubles or Aussie Dollars. Is that your experience?

        • A says:

I’ve withdrawn GBP from Binance a few times – worked fine but each time for relatively small amounts (less than £1k).

          • trader363 says:

You can withdraw fiat from Binance – pretty normal way. Just select withdraw, GBP and put in your bank details.

Surprisingly the daily limit is £200k lol

          • Yorkie Aid says:

            Thank you for clarifying A.

  • max says:

Can anyone recommend a drive thru PCR test in east London to get a fit to fly certificate? I’m aware that LHR offer drive thru testing but was wondering if there is somewhere half decent closer to E14? Thanks all

  • 747_Brat says:

I should highlight that you need to make 3 card purchases of any amount and order a physical card to qualify for the £37 incentive. There is a £4.5 fee (if I recall correctly) to order a physical card.

    • Yorkie Aid says:

Isn’t it only the referrer who gets the incentive?

      • 747_Brat says:

You are correct Yorkie Aid. Sorry, I didn’t read the T&Cs carefully.
Now that I have read it, it sure is a weird promo wherein the person being referred gets nothing. I don’t think I have come across any such promo in the past.

      • Yorkie Aid says:

I agree 747_Brat it’s rather strange. However it didn’t put me off signing up with a fellow HfPer’s referral code the other day 🙂

  • MadeUpName says:

Interested if anyone is planning a leisure trip to an amber country after 17th May? We can’t as we can’t quarantine due to childcare issues but Interested to see if others will be.

Especially as green list is rumoured to be 8 countries…

    • ChrisC says:

Very much depends on what countries are on which list and what their requirements are for testing and quarentine etc when you arrive there.

I’ll onky rely on the official list when it gets published and won’t be relying on media guesses.

      • The cyclist says:

None of us will be going anywhere in the short to medium term. What are your views on the superleague proposal Chris?

      • The cyclist says:

Sage advice me old china Chris, who do you think will win league one this year?

    • BrianHFY says:

What puts me me off even going to a green country is the pre departure test in the resort. If you fail that test I presume you then have to quarantine in the resort? If so, that can cause all sorts of issues with work and other things.

  • bafan says:

I know it’s a bit crystal ball-ish at the moment, but does anyone want to offer thoughts as to whether we’ll be allowed into the U.S. for July 4th? I have some travel vouchers to use and if there’s any chance I’d like to get my booking in.
